ok the jews have a word that means non jew its goy or goyim i am a christian and i want to know if any other "non jews" think that its offensive to have a word that means non jew bcuz whenever you have a word that excludes someone it makes it sound like you think you are better and they are not worthy of you my jewish professor is always using the word goyim to talk about this non jew who is dating his daughter who else thinks that the fact that jews use the word goyim to describe us non jews is offensive

Jews are strange folks. That's why God chose them-He wants to show the world that if He could love a Jew---then everyone can be loved by God.

O.K. I don't think it's offensive. It's hebrew. We as christians have words for non christians. I just used one "non christian" Every language has words for non christian, non jew, or what have you. If your daughter was dating someone who was not a christian, wouldn't you say that he was a non christian? What would be the difference between what you said and what your professor said. It is one in the same. Either way, I don't think it's offensive. As a christian, be proud to be a goyim. As a jew, be proud to be a non christian. PEACE EVERYONE. By the way, I am a goyim. tomAto--tomOto,potAto--potOto. See what I mean.

I'm not Jewish, and I've never heard the term, but I don't think it's offensive. The word I think of for people that are not Jewish is Gentile. I'm a Gentile. It's okay to have a special word; we are distinct, because the Jews are God's special, chosen people. I am so blessed to have the same priviledge to come before God as they do.

The jews are god's chosen peopl. let them have a word. at least the gentiles can still go to heave, that's better than the jews not having a word!

"i am a christian ... whenever you have a word that excludes someone it makes it sound like you think you are better and they are not worthy of you"

I'm tempted to say 'practice what you preach'.

Are you ready to call Satanists "christian" because you don't want them to feel excluded or that you are somehow better than they?

Just what would you call "non-Christians" to avoid this problem?

How are Jews to label those who do not share their faith?

I don't really care, we call them Jews and they've been calling us Gentiles or what not for 1000s of years

You are pretty easily offended. I am an atheist...call me anything you wish regarding my disbelief in 'god', it won't bother me in the slightest. Lighten up. Different languages have different words which apply to different things. At the risk of being offensive, lighten up.

Err....does that mean the word "atheist" is also offensive? I don't find it so, and I am one.
