The have a short, tight coat similar to that of a miniature pinscher so they wouldn't shed a lot, but they are not considered to be a non-shedding breed.
A portugese water dog is a larger breed that is non-shedding. But Basenji's are neat little dogs as well. If you go to the Basenji Club of America website there will be lots of information there about them as well as breeder lists.

I don't know, but I needed a non-shedding dog, and I got a Mini Schnauzer. He's great, he's cute, and he doesn't shed. Every once in a while I see a little black hair on my shirt or something, and I wonder what it is before I realize it belongs to the dog. That is how rare it is to see one not attached to the dog!

Yes, yes and yes. And when they shed they shed little short hairs that stick in EVERYTHING. Great dogs but they constently shed that is why their hair is always short.
Long hair dogs generally shed in seasons and shed in clumps so it is easier to handle.

I know 2 besenjis that dont shed but they have nails that wreck floors and they bark really loud too, they are not big dogs either.
