short wheel base, very light, and tires are wide, bad combination on ice. Tires make a HUGE difference. tires marked M/T are designed for mud...they look cool and lots of guys buy them, but they are terrible on ice because the lugs are smooth. Get tires with lots of siping(small slices in the tread). these tires are better on ice

I see a lot of the wrong impression being stated here.
A lot of it depends on the drivers skill level. Do not overdo the jeeps capability.
Good tires are beneficial, a good set of All-terrains will get you a long ways.
It really has nothing to do with wheelbase, but weight does help. Get tires that are stock sized for your jeep, if you go taller, keep the tread width narrow, less snow to pack leads to less floatation. Also, if you're going to run in the snow for extended periods of time, air down your tires a few PSI, you will see a huge difference.

It really depends on how stupid the driver is gonna be in snow. Slower the better, and the proper treads, and in all 4's.

They skid easily and correct poorly and tip over easily, compared to a 'regular' car, that is.
