Easy answer, the Honda Odssey has the best reliability record of ANY MINIVAN for that time period. This is according to Consumers Reports. Their evaluations are based on the reports of their readers(approximately 750,000 readers). For the last three years or so the Honda Odssey and the Toyota Seirra have bounced back and forth forst first place.Mazda has been better than Dodge/Chrystler and Nissan has had some reliability problems. Bottom line: if you want reliability and resale value go woth Honda. It does not guarantee no problems, it just guarantees the best chance of fewer problems.

NOW, having said that. The most important thing to consider is how well the vehicle has ben taken care of. If you are REALLLLY interested in a specific van(regardless of make) spend the money to have it checked out(by a professional). When they have a few years on them then condition is more important than all the other things combined. I have had a couple checked out by Good Year. I difinately would not recommend having them repair it, but they seem to do a really through job of checking them out. Also, a good place to buy is Carmax, and you can go online and look at vehicles including price. They tend to try to only sell vehicles in good shape.

Good Luck

6 months ago, we bought a 1 year old Ford Freestar with 28,000 miles for $17,000. I am VERY pleased with it. I owned a Ford Windstar before that and did not have any problem with the "tranny". Or "fanny" either.

I know some people think American cars are crap and I have owned a Toyota, Dodge, Chevrolet, Honda, Accura, Chrysler and Ford. The two Fords I've owned have done just fine. The Honda and Accura were my favorite. I liked the Toyota too but it had the worst repair record of them all. Go figure.

The new Ford van is worth at least a look.

Thats a tough call. Honda is expensive. Mazda is OK, but reliability isnt always consistent between different models. I dont like the way the MPV drives, so it may come down to what you like.

We have a Pontiac Montana. We really like it. It's one of the few models that come in an 8 passenger too. It is a large van, but it handles and rides like a car. It has a 25 gallon gas tank, so filling her up hurts, but it's longer between fill ups.

i know that Mazda and ford have alot in common kinda like ford and mercury. now I'm not sure if there vans are the same but ford vans have problems with trannys. a good idea is to find sites on line that have vehicle reviews. They have reviews that a professionally done and also ones that are done by people who own these vehicles.

Yeah, the Kia is a nice one, and you can get a brand new one in your price range. . .other than that, go with a Honda or Toyota.
