NO! Marriage is defined as one man, one woman. The bible clearly says's "Adam & Eve", not "Steve"!

I think its time to create a set of principles for a new era.
Marriage should be open to all people who want it.
You speak of marriage as a holy and loving instituation. Historically this is not so. Marriage throughout history has only been a business contract made out between parents of two individuals. Love was not a factor (this was particually true for the upper class)
I also have a problem with the bible as the reason why people dislike it. You are therefore pro-slavery.
You can't choose to talk some parts literally and others not. The bible was not written by god, it was written by man.

I see nothing wrong with gay marriage. Love is love. Homosexuality is normal and happens naturally in nature. Japanese Macques are among one of many species who exibit homosexual behaviors.
The government has no right to deny gays the chance to marry. The government is there to protect the people. Gay marriage is not harming anyone.
I agree with the poster who said in 100 years people will look back on this and wonder what were we thinking, just as we think of racial segregation now.
Bottom line, whether or not there is a God, people should have the right to do anything so long as it does not harm another creature unnecessarily.
And yes, I am Wiccan.

YES, For the Children's sake and the sake of the "Partner". If one of the "partners" died or was incompasitated, the other partner needs legal right to take care of the kids(that one might have had prior). And to have power of attorney, if needed. They also need to be able to give the go ahead to doctors who need to work on them. There are soooooo many reasons this should be made legal. FYI , I am straight and married 8years. Compassion is what is needed. God is compassionate. All of the bible was written by Man, not God. There have been Gay's since the beginning of time. Before the bible was written. Science has proven that people are born Gay. Accept this and move on, we could concern ourselves with much more important issues -especially in Congress, if we could all just accept Homosexuality.

Of course not. Love between a man and a woman is different from love between a man and another man or a woman and another woman in the same way that you don't love your siblings to get married to. I love my pet rabbit and my dog, but not for getting married. What happens if you love two people? Eventually there are going to be threesomes living together. So does that make it ok? Can that be legalized too? Howabout if a 50 year old man loves a 12 year old girl? Some things are just not right, gay marriage is one of them.

I feel the same way. I believe that it's a sin for people of the same sex to get married/have relations.
However, lying is a sin, so is swearing, coveting....
Everyone is technically sinning in the eyes of God, and I guess the difference is that some people work towards changing to try and be less sinful, where as others prefer to think that their behaviour is okay.
All this said, I have a cousin who is gay, and I wouldn't want him to be unhappy and alone. It's a hard topic.
I think it's wrong, but I understand why people want it to be legalized. Unfortunately, no one is ever going to be free from prejudice so I'm not sure where this will even get us.

God made gay people, too. This issue has been researched over and over. It is not a 'choice'.
You have to live a while to understand that the real value in marriage is having another person you can partner with to look after each other.
Marriage confers a set of rights between the partners. They have the ability to visit each other when hospitalized. Should one be incapacitated, the other can speak for them and make sure that they are properly treated and that their interests are heard.
At the end of life, you can will your belongings to your spouse without challenge from other relatives..
Gays should be able to choose their life-partner and in our society, marriage is the relationship that confers those rights.

No. I don't believe at all that gay marriages should be legalized. Marriage is a bond created by God. I don't hate anyone but because of the Word of God, I can not agree with something that the Word of God and nature is against.

The problem is, there are two separate aspects to what we call "marriage":
1. On the one hand, it is a government-recognized union which has certain benefits and carries certain responsibilities.
2. It is also an institution with certain recognized religious aspects to it...i.e.: ordained by God.
I would like to see some sort of civil union recognized by the states. I don't understand how any man could possibly like playing "bouncy butt-thumper" with another man, but I know gay couples who are very dedicated to one another and deeply in love. I think that they should be able to enter some type of legally-recognized union that would give them some of the same rights as heterosexual "couples". Enabling one to make critical medical decisions for the other, for example.
Prior to the most recent election, most of the U.S. felt that way, too, according to most polls. The latest CNN poll showed that 68% of the country favored "civil unions", with the Fox poll a couple of percentage points higher.
Then you had that mess in San Francisco, where...against California state law...the mayor started issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. And just about the same time, the Massachussetts state supreme court found in favor to gay marriage. So you had all kinds of gays flocking to both places, being very "in your face" on national TV: "We're queer and we're getting married and there ain't a DAMN thing you can do about it!"
With lots of TV footage of burly lesbian couples and little sissy gentlemen couples French kissing up and down the courthouse steps.
So all the Holy Rollers got all pissed off and organized, and most of the moderates just wrote it off, too....so eight states passed "No Gay Marriage" amendments (which included "no civil union" provisions, as well)...and now the majority of the population is AGAINST any type of civil union.
GOT to be a lesson there, somewhere...

Why should you care if gays get married? They leave you alone, they don't bother you. It shouldn't even be a question for whether or not gay marriages are allowed. Regardless of what God or the Bible says. What if they don't believe in God or any of that? All you people who are against gay marriages should just keep to yourself and keep your own beliefs. You know what the bible and God says and so does everyone else so you shouldn't have to remind everyone what it says. They don't bother you or hurt you in any way so leave it at that..

The governmetn we have now grants people the right to choose wether they sin or not. So why wouldn't the same go for marriage? just because it's legalized, doens't mean the church has to perfom it, or agree with it. I believe that if the church ran the state, as it did long ago, then no, it should not be legalized. but since there is a seperation of church and state, I think that gay poepl should be allowed to marry if they want.
