When World War II ended, the government of America had to come up with a way to support the returning veterans because there was fear they would not be able to find work, be able to buy homes or have a livelyhood.

the government of the time invented the G.I. BILL which basically allowed Gi's to go to school/ vocational schools and gave them loans to build and buy homes. This led to the creation of America's first suburbs such as Levitown and Jamaica Queens.

However, today the situation is unabated.

The government has driven America so far into debt with failing policy after failing policy regarding Iraq and the War on Terror that the countries infrastructure is falling apart.

Take a look at a house for sale and see how much it costs for example.

Since Bush got in office, the average price of a home rose from $150K to $300K.
The average price of a gallon of gasoline rose from $1.40 to $3.00.

The entire cost of living in America has risen while wages HAVE STAGNATED.

Why do you think Veterans can't afford homes?
First of all, unless they have $40,000 a year jobs or better, they can't even afford to pay their mortgages.
Unless they have $30,000 saved in cash, they can't afford to purchase a home.
Unless they have not lost any body parts in the war, they can't get meaningful jobs - which basically forces them to either be CAREER Military or forces them to be in the homelessness position you describe.

You want to know who's fault it is.

Ask:
BUSH
Rumsfeld
Cheyney
and last but not least... the stupid f**in neocons who voted them in.

Funny, I'm hearing more of the "homeless" claim military service as a reason they can't take care of their basic needs.
I seldom believe them anymore, having taken a few to the VA and finding out they were never in uniform.
Actually, the results after a major war effort on personal recovery have the same percentages they have always had, in that about 10% of the combat veterans never quite get back up to normal.
The veterans clubs have sponsored many studies on this, and it holds true today as it did in 1945, 55, et alia.

It is the veteran, first they did not have to leave service, so they had a job.

Veterans have opportunity for education programs and more.

There are also few ( percentage) that are homeless that would not have been homelsee from thier choices had they not been in the military.

So in the end a person who is homeless and homless for a long period ( since too many people live pay check to pay check, it is possible for anyone to be homeless on short term)

Lots of veterans from nearly every war have turned up homeless. This is nothing new. It's just the media blowing it up out of proportion again, as usual.

There are plenty of soldiers back from the Gulf who are functioning perfectly normally, just as there were plenty from 'Nam, Korea, WW2, WW1, the Spanish-American War, the Civil War . . . well, I'm sure you get the picture.

What I'd like to know is just how many of the homeless men you refer, have child support orders against them, and how many haven't seen their kids since their first ship to Iraq. Answer that, and your knowledge of the true treatment of these vets will have jumped dramatically.

I counseled over 1600 divorced fathers in the mid-80's. One of the many big lies generated by feminists, who are nearly 67% of all women in the country, is that "MEN DON'T WANT TO SEE THEIR KIDS."

For overall quality, this is the female equivalent of the male pig's, "WOMEN WANT TO BE RAPED."

Men who are separated from their kids, assuming they developed a relationship with them, not the sperm donors who never saw them, are awfully close to a nervous breakdown. They can't sleep nights, they lay awake totally distraught. They are more likely to drink to kill the pain, or to take drugs, or engage in angry anti-social behavior, that can cause them to be unemployed. At which time the lovely man-haters call them, "Dead beats"

Though non-custodial mothers are delinquent at a much higher rate.

Veterans who have seen horrible things receive zero counselling, the VA budget has been cut. They are ruined, the cost of war is human wrecks.

That's one of the reasons this country is going down hill and there is so much striff. It is forgetting the veterans all in the name of the dollar bill. Like has been said many times to many questions, " they only care about em while they are in the WOMB, after that it's every man for himself".
