What's a special food that you've been eating since you were a kid that always brings back childhood memories and fills you with warm fuzzies, lol? Mine is curry rice. I had forgotten that my mom ever made it, but i went to this one japaneses/cali restaurant and i ordered curry rice, and when i tasted it, it was so good i almost cried! and i remembered that my mom used to make it when i was really little. good times. ;p

And also, what's a food that you rarely (like once or twice a year) ever get but you've been eating since you were a kid? Mine is a special sweet sticky rice wrapped in a banana leaf that my grandma makes and brings back from the philipines. i haven't had it in like 2 years. *tear*

Oh yes, what a happy chord you've struck! My memories of laughing as my father tried to untie the thread mother would sometimes knot in the middle ( ! ) around a rolled thin round steak creation called "Roladen" in German. The thing would roll around the plate and then stop, and they'd tease each other on the proper way to tie up or untie the thing. I'd just break it up and grab the thread when I could, which they thought wasn't sporting.
My son makes them now, and I still love the taste; bacon and onion wedge with garlic rolled up inside, and au jus gravy. Mom would brown them in lard or bacon grease, (we use safer stuff now) then cook them in an inch or two of water with spices.
Slurp slurp, y'all!

Oh! For me it's the Friday night salmon patties and fried potatoes Mom always made. I too went someplace and they had them, I just closed my eyes went back a whole lotta years!!!! The once in a while thing is ham and beans--you knew times were getting hard when Mom bought a ham bone and a bag of beans. Fed all six of us--but I never cared for it. Now I make it once a year just because.

For my son it's lasagne and oreo cookie dessert (aka "dirty dessert"). He's 27, but on his birthday that's what I make, and don't forget the garlic bread!!!

I have 3. One is my mom's and grandma's homemade frito pie, which is a special really good chile on top of fritos. My second is lasagne that me mom use to always make that is soo good! And my third is my mom's enchilada's are the best! I have not eaten them lately though, she is in Iraq, but the frito pie will be the first meal I want her to cook me when she gets back!

whilst i became into approximately six we lived in Germany. An early morning in October sitting on the balcony with my dad. He became into sharpening his shoes and boots, like he consistently did on a Sunday morning. Our housekeeper delivered my dad espresso and a thick slice of toast and for me cocoa and somewhat toast. I in simple terms sat there eating my cocoa and eating my toast alongside with him. I watched my dad, he would shine his shoes till they regarded new. now and back we'd talk, yet extra often than not in simple terms take a seat at the same time quietly. I pass over my dad yet when I take a seat exterior, whilst its in simple terms so chilly with cocoa and toast, i'm transported decrease back in time. Yeah i comprehend what you mean. It particular is a great feeling. thank you for the memory.
