most pills start working right away, with some brands you should wait about 7-10 days. It should say on the package.

I don't know where these people are coming up with their answers, but if you listen to most of them you'll be pregnant pretty soon.
When you start taking the pill you have to use some other form of birth control for the whole first month. After you've had your first cycle and start taking your second pack of pills you are safe.
Just be sure to take it every day, at the same time of day. One slip up and you can get pregnant.

My doctor told me to wait two months before having sex without any other form of protection.
Though birth control pills are very effective, they are not 100% sure to prevent pregnance. A condom (or other method of birth control) should still be used if you are absolutely certain that you don't want to become pregnant.

Goodness me, what a load of rubbish some people talk.
It depends on 2 factors. The brand you ave been given and what day of your cycle you took the first pill.
With progesterone pills, it is effective immediately IF taken on the first day of your period. Otherwise its 7 days.
With combi pills its 7 days.
Read the leaflet tho, as it will all be in there.

I don't know about birth control pills in particular. With any med it can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 30 days. If its a prescription ask the pharmacist. If its over the counter check the package, and if you can't find the time on the package ask the pharmacist.

Give them at least 1 week before NOT using another form of birth control.

My dr. told me to wait a month (a full pack of pills) before relying on them as birth control. They need to get into your system, and "build up" to begin working. Everyone is different, but to be safe, wait for one full pack. But please remember - they are not 100 % effective. I was on mine for years, and I now have a year old daughter (I got pregnant while still on the pill).

Mine seems to be starting right away and the health department told me I had to wait until after 2 weeks of taking the pill before I have unprotected sex.

Birthcontrol pills work as soon as you take them but you should read up on certain types of BC because there are alot of side effects to them i was on BC for along time and then when i wanted to get pregnant it took along time for me to get pregnant and it took along time to get the pillls out of my system where i had taken them for so long so there's some good things about them and some bad so id really think about taking them before you do good luck,
