My friend told me that if you were to get hypnotized (to quit smoking, for example,) that you would be going against God. Is this true?

No, unless it involves worshiping a false god. Meditation is a form of hypnosis and meditation is a good thing as long as your focus is on God. Mind you it is possible for someone to get really hurt from hypnosis so research the method the hypnotists uses. There are some deeper forms where you really have to put your trust in the hypnotist which I don't recommend but there are some forms that are merely relaxing and focusing at which time you ARE in full control of whats going on.

You really have to look up the definition of hypnosis people. Ever read a book and saw the events in your head? You were hypnotised. Ever been really into a tv show or movie? You were hypnotised. Ever had someone read you a love poem and you just couldn't look away as they spoke? You guessed it, hypnotised.

By the way, the true masters of hypnosis are tv evangelists. They use it every show!

Unless we now classify hypnotism as a dark art, then no, I don't think God would be upset with someone who was trying to better themselves with this technique.

Well, kinda-sorta. You open yourself up to 'sub-conscious' suggestion. It is not a good thing to do. God does not specifically say "thou shalt not get hypnotized', but He does warn us about using mediums and such. Some would classify a hypnotist as a medium.

I don't think so.
My mom claims yoga's evil and a good way to get demons.
---That just goes to show you how superstitious ppl can get from listing to their wacky, misguided friends.

I wouldn't let someone control my thoughts or mind like that. It may open you up for something you really don't want.
