What difference is there between the Police and the FBI??

Sorry... I'm not that smart and I was just wondering!!

But what I mean is what difference is there on the things they do... I mean... what does the police take care of and what does the FBI take care of???

Police are city officials who deal with things pertaining to a certain area and they don't go into big cases they deal with more civil things around and the FBI deal with thebig cases and they are more of a special operations organization that is also a federal organization! By the way its ok to wonder about things that you have no clue about we all do it sometimes!

Police are local law enforcement and the FBI is the Federal Government. Another way to put it is that if the Police are after you, sometimes you can just leave the state, never come back or wait out the statute of limitations and that's the end of it, but if the FBi is after you, even leaving the country wont help!

FBI is a federal organization, Police are employed by the city government and don't directly answer to the Feds.

Federal vs State. Also the FBI is intended to investigate, while the Police are out there in the streets. Their functions are complementary.

police dept. take care of their own area in a state, where as the FBI can come in and take over any case that involves bank robberies terrorists and things of that nature across the united states.

Most times the FBI handles money crimes... bank robberies because they are federally insured, embezzlements. They also handle kidnappings if they involve going from one state to another. To be an agent, you should have a bachelors degree. I think, they still prefer accounting degrees because they handle so many money crimes. They also favor law school grads but do not want you to have taken a BAR exam.
