The Record for a US Sniper was The Feb 1967 2500 yard shot by Sgt Carlos Hathcock USMC. At Duc Pho in I Corps, Hathcock engaged a VC on a Bike with a .50 cal M2 Browning Machine gun fitted with a Unertl scope. That record stood as a world record till 2003.
The current record for longest range sniper kill is 2,430 metres (7,972 ft), accomplished by a Canadian sniper,Master Cpl. Arron Perry , of the third battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI), during the invasion of Afghanistan durring Operation Anaconda, using a .50 BMG (12.7 mm) McMillan bolt-action rifle. This meant that the round had a flight time of four seconds, and a drop of 44.5 m (146 ft). The previous record was held by Carlos Hathcock, achieved during the Vietnam War, at a distance of 2,250 m or 2500 yds.
