I have a bassoon i am getting ready to sell (i've had it for years). i opened the case and the keys are almost black with tarnish and it has a weird stench (it is coming from the keys, not inside). what could have caused this and what is a good product to clean it?

Bacteria causes the smell. Clean it with either Brasso or Duraglit.

Unscrew the keys first, then use what all the other people tell you. I would suggest water or slightly acidic water to 'rumble' your keys in, but I've only been playing bassoon for a few years.

You should probably get it professionally done. You could damage the pads or wood if you do it incorrectly.
