The leaders in the past were not stupid they knew the population would grow in mass over the centuries. Do you think that they created an image, a figure if you will, that fed on peoples emotions, to help control the population. Put guidlines ( The Ten Commandments ) as general rules for people to follow?

I think God is real.
Whay do you think some leader created an image of God ? For what ? I think over population is not such a serious matter for leaders that they had to make a god. There are many reasons, but I don't think population is one of them. Now, world population is over 6 billions, so many people in the world. I don't know about other religions, but in Bible ( I'm a Christian), God blessed human and said to Adam and Eve: " Bear so many children that is full of the globe"

Imagined and yes, religion is a great tool for controling the masses that trancends governments.

The 10 Commandments was a device to A) To keep the masses from killing each other and falling into total anarchy. B) To promote devotion to "God" represented by those in control of the church.

The problem with Theocracy is everyone wants to be Theo...

If the whole idea is man made, then it isn't working very well because a majority of people do not follow it. Besides, it is too complex and deep to have been devised by men; there would be actual inconsistancies and contradictions.

As the world is today, there are many religeous beliefs which have similar features. I believe that this is because the many have changed the true religeon to meet their own personal beliefs. I believe that the true religeon is the one taught and demonstrated by Jesus.

I think that God is real.

I think that religion was created for a number of reasons, but one of the greatest was to control most of the population. True in the ancient world - true in the medieval world - true in the modern world.

(And my response doesn't single out any particular religion. It's true that practically every religion has been (mis)used as a means of instilling fear, controlling populations, and committing the justifying some of the most heinous acts of inhumanity that the world has ever seen.)

Neither. The god myth started off the way all myths normally do. Something ordinary gets exaggerate upon retelling until it takes on a life of its own. In the case of god, this was the anthropomorphization of the sun (monotheism) and constellations (polytheism).

But....at some point rulers did realize it could be used as a tool to control the masses, and so they modified it to suit their purposes.

all roads, all ideas and all possibilities lead to the fact that somewhere at sometime there WAS (and probably still is) a creator. somebody put the basic elements for out world together, even if you believe we crawled from ocean slime or single cell life, you still have to accept the fact that someone created space stars an the ocean slime. Sometimes I think that I am a god to the t fish and life forms in my fish tank, but my role and my fish tank are finate. I wonder if God is any more aware of us than I am of individual bacteria in my fish tank....

The Romans of Christ day fought amongst themselves as what to do with Christ and the Church that was taking hold, at that time. It was decided and spoken of in Scripture that they let it go for if it was not true then it would fade away in and over time and come to nothing and could not stand upon itself. If however it was true then they would be found fighting against God Himself and no one could win that battle. Choose your own decision but I believe it's real and I know it's real so don't expect anything too soon.

God and religion was definitely created to control most of the population. Leaders were scared of too many free thinkers, so devised these fairy tales to control people. Hence, why today, less people are believing in religion cos they can see its fiction

Well, this really depends on your opinion. If you believe God is real, then he is real to you. It is very difficult to explain. But, I am Catholic, so I believe that God is real. It all depends on what you think. People have been asking this question for a long time I think. No one has really proven anyone wrong or right. There's evidence that could be used to support either opinion. (The opinions would of course be: God is real, and God is not real)
Interesting question I think.

Yes, God is real, and he was created to make you FEEL GOOD.
Stop thinking about what "THEY" did for just a few minutes. Try not to be so cynical and negative about religion. God is Love.God is whatever you want it to be. It's a pretty cool concept if you give it a try. And He just might provide you with some inner peace
