Oh is there a Munster or a Gorgon-zola in your dreams? Does it make your teeth cheddar? Does the bad guy carry a swiss knife? Don't feta over it! It's all Gouda!
More seriously - many foods can bring on odd dreams, but they're not necessarily the source of nightmares. Those typically come from fears, worries, and stresses that you haven't had time to process.

That's never happened to me with cheese. Cheese is good, and kind, and generously donated by placid, yielding farm animals. Cheese would never inspire terror.
Tequila gave me nightmares once. Then I woke up and realized it hadn't been a dream...

What a "cheesy' question; here's a "cheesy" answer. Because the moon is made of cheese and when you eat cheese, you are actually eating moon aliens. The cheesy moon aliens attack your brain while you sleep at night, which causes horrid nightmares.

The myth came from the days when smoking opium, drinking copious amounts of spirits, port and wine with nibbles of cheese was popular among society.
And they had the cheek to blame the cheese for the buzzing they enjoyed, or endured, when they were mashed off their faces.

Cause cheese is scary. I remember when a big chunk of cheddar chased me for three blocks with an axe. Someone should do something about the rampant cheese problem.

They say that it has a chemical in it that makes you halucinate a bit (jeees my spelling is horrendous) so when you are in a dream state they are more vivid not always a nightmare.
