October is still nice enough to go to a local park that has park benches and playground equipment. Or you could go to a Chuck E Cheeses (my cousin did this for her daughter - the kids had a blast playing and eating and the food was not that bad). If you are members of a local YMCA or something like they often have something where you can have a birthday party and the guests can go swimming after the cake and presents. For our older two girls whose birthdays are in May and June we combine and have a park party. Everyone has so much fun playing on the playground equipment, blowing bubbles and flying kites (you can get cheap kites and let the kids go) that we have been doing this ever since. It has become our thing to do. Clean up is easy (anything that falls on the ground is cleaned up by the animals and ants, etc), there are garbage cans all around to put the plates, etc in. We get subs from a Jersey Mikes or something like that and then people can pick their own sandwiches from the choices and we have cupcakes instead of a cake (you can put "rings" from his favorite tv show in the top of the cupcakes and this makes a fun gift for the kids to take home.

I also don't have a whole lot of friends either. For my son's 2nd b-day (last Dec.) I took him to Chuck e Cheese. It was bustling w/ other children, good kid's menu, reasonably priced and he didn't even notice that he only had 1 friend there. Now that his circle of friends is growing, I plan to have his parties at home, w/ little or no fanfare.
