Some interprets Genesis 38:9 -10 as proof that God will judge masturbation. And this may well be the Bible scenario which most resemble a masturbation. If this community can find other verses for cross-referencing, please help.

But there are many unsettlements still. Namely, was Onan judged because of his act or his motive? Was "wasting seed" a sin? If so, what's the implication for ladies?

Thousands of debate can arise.....as usual.

Sister, I am glad that you are willing to seek an answer for this "closet question", which tends to be swept under. I am afraid since this is a controversy, you may take a while to source out theological correct answer. In worst case, there may be no adequate answer on this side of heaven.

The quickest solution is quit it and ask for forgiveness.

Play safe? Yes I am.

The original meaning of the word "sin" is basically to error or to make a mistake.
God created you with sexual urges and curiosity, naturally you will masturbate and there is nothing wrong with it. It doesn't hurt anybody else and is completely natural.
It becomes a "sin" if you do it entirely too much and become obsessed with it. And in many traditional beliefs, every time you ejaculate you lose some of your life force, especially males. This will make you weaker, age more quickley, and set you up for disease.
To masturbate in moderation is perfectly fine and you should do so guilt free.

It is probably not a sin. However, it is a very personal thing and probably should not be encouraged. If you feel guilty about it then either deal with it or find help from a Pastor. As far as I know there is no specific reference in the scripture condemning this activity as there is regarding bestiality, homosexuality, adultery, cross-dressing and fornication. The biblical reference to Onan has to do with refusing to impregnate a particular woman as required by God:

"Onan was the second son of Judah. After his older brother Er died, Onan was required by the tradition of levirate marriage to marry Er's widow Tamar. According to Genesis 38:7-9, when he had sexual intercourse with Tamar he "spilt his seed upon the ground" because the resulting child would be considered his late brother's, not his. In response to this transgression, God killed Onan."

It is clear to me that God's anger was because of Onan's refusal to impregnate the woman for the honor of his brother and not simply because he "spilled his seed". I am sure masturbation has been around as long as man has and if God saw it as a specifically sinful activity it would have been specifically condemned. On the other hand, I don't see any references encouraging said activity.

From what I have studied on religion, psychology and the acts of masturbation it is really perfectly natural. Perfectly natural for the human body to need the release, however there is a thin line between natural and over indulging. Over indulging in anything is a sin, really. It has to be definitely better than going out and sleeping around...wouldn't you say?

yes it is - every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten.

NO IT IS NOT A SIN!!!!!!!! If anything, you are preventing the spread of STD's as well as pregnancy so that is good. Plus, masturbation releases endorphins into your system that make you happy. How is it a sin? At least you are not out screwing around with a guy ( at leastI am assuming not).

Not at all. If a sin, Why would God made us like this in the 1st. place? Weren't we created at God's image and resemblance? Perhaps to bee around going into bed with the 1st. one you've found handsome I think is better masturbation to avoid any deceases that may kill you.

Do you feel as though you are doing something sinful, or have you ever felt as though you were? Most of the time, things like this end up with personal conviction. I feel it is because of the lusting after someone that's not your signifigant other and the whole adultry in the heart thing.

No, it's not.
Gen 38:8 & Gen 38:9
"Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." 9 But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother."

Absolutly nothing to do with masturbation.

masturbating probably isn't a sin of the 10 commandments, but somewhere in the bible it said that it was wrong, because having 'sex' with yourself is a misuse of god's gift of sexuality
