I saw a couple of bugs that I at first thought were daddy longlegs spiders but they had only six legs. Spiders have eight legs, of course, so these were obviously insects. A quick look at wikipedia.com showed that daddy longlegs have an entirely different body shape than these. I've never really taken time to study this too closely before. These critters had smaller bodies, like a small bean, as well as I could tell. They had the same kind of long legs as daddy longlegs, just not enough of them. And no, they were not amputees, they looked perfectly heathy. Do you know what they might be?

They appear to be Harvestmen, which are Phalangids, or Opiliones, arachnids like spiders but not true spiders. They may be "amputees"after all, as they tend to apparently tend to lose legs quite easily and get along just fine.

And like true daddy longlegs spiders, they are also often refered to as daddy longlegs.
