Waaaaaaaay back in the "olden" days ;-) (1981), my pediatrician, a man still in practice in his 70's, told me the easiest thing to do to get your child off of a bottle. Allow him/her the bottle, but don't put anything in it but plain water.
Put all the good, tasty stuff in the sippy cup.
Unfortunately, I, too, waited until my son was 2 y/o before consulting him. He told me I should have done this when he was a year old. I was 21 and hadn't played Mommy before.
But, I followed his advice, which also extended to nighttime bottles, by the way, and my son decided that bottle of water wasn't near as interesting as what was in that sippy cup.
My daughter was born when my son was 4 y/o. I continued to follow good, ol' Dr. B's advice and I had my daughter sleeping through the night by age 5 months by offering only a dry diaper, a bottle of water and Mommy's comfort when she wakened during the night; and, as her first birthday approached, I put more water in bottles and more good stuff in sippy cups and she was completely and totally off the bottle by age one.
Hope it's of some help to you.

my kids were done at 9 months
i think the only reason your son still has the bottle is because it is so much easier for you to just give it to him than hear him cry for it ...if you really wanna take it from him you will .... he is gonna cry as do all babies that don't understand why that cant have something that isn't good for them .... just take it and give him a cup and give him no other option , he will accept it in time ....
and @ "poptrash" ....once its posted as a question on yahoo answers it is our business and just to let you know the years and years of research that proves it is not good for a childs teeth to suck a bottle after a certain age is reason enough for me to take my kids off the bottle as early as possible ...you are what most would call a lazy mother ...get off your a** and get the kid a cup

throw all the bottles away.....do it today. make this little one drink from a sippy cup....there is no nutricious reason why this young man shouldn't be drinking from a cup. He no longer should need a bottle. He might cry a lot but he'll get over it. Just put them out in the garbage and DO NOT BUY any more bottles!

Hopefully by age 1, but you've already passed that. I never heard of a child wanting only one in the morning. Usually they hang onto the bedtime bottle! Just don't give him one any longer. He will adjust!

T here is no right age. You will have heaps of "do-good " people that will tell you that he's too old at a certain age(what would they know?)every child is different.my son is 3 and still occasionally has a bottle and he like his pacifier too So What!! its not hurting him or any one else he's happy and i'm happy.so really its up to your child and anyone who thinks its there right to comment can mind their own bussiness.
