Judging by many of your answers-I see why the mind is a terrible thing to waste...

Such nonsense. It is not the worlds right to choice to live where they want. Or to become US citizens. It is our laws-we choose.

And those stupid quotes-not knowing basic history or why objects came to be. I guess reading and understanding isn't as important as we thought-it sure shows in some of these posts. What a lack of understanding. Or maybe these are posts to show us that there are people who were Left behind in school. I wonder if these are the same people who came up with the plan to count the dead fish by poisoning the river.

Lets take care of what we have. We have done fairly well by that. Why listen to fools it is apparent other countries have done so well with that kind of intelligence.

The post above me-does make a good point

Well, at one time, the world had the right to BECOME a U.S. Citizen because there was so much room for people in this new country and it was people from all over the world that did settle here and start this little country! It was also the people from all over the world that Built and made this Country at one time the Most Powerful and Richest country in the world even though it was so young and now they are the ones who want to still live here if they can!

I'm really quite amazed at some of the other answers...

Basing policy off on an inscription on a statue that was a gift from another country? Give me a break.

Can I erect a statue that has the inscription 'Illegals GET OUT' and have it be policy? Neato!

The world has no right to American citizenship. There are two factors creating the problem. American prosperity and a border that isn't secure.

If Mexico was as well off as the United States, Mexico would be overflowing with illegals. That is, if they didn't shoot them all.

The rest of the world just wants to suck on the nipple of the cash cow known as the United States.

Well, citizens of the U.S. immigrate overseas too, you know- and people immigrate to other countries besides the U.S., aswell. Sometimes a person is just not suited to the country they were born in, or for whatever reason they might be unable to live fully or freely in their own country. They might not be able to make a good living in their country. Possibly they cannot fully practice their chosen proffession in their own country. There are zillions of reasons why someone might immigrate. That's why there's a system in place to determine who can and cannot become a US citizen. Respect everyone's right to a better life.

Mr Turntable.....

I see from your various questions and responses that you are an unmitigated bigot with a a blinkered view of the world.

I have lived in many countries and have yet to find one in which 'most' (or even a sizeable minority) want to become a US citizen. I challenge you to back up your assertion with facts.

You go further in a later question (or should I call it an inflammatory post) and suggest that non-whites want to migrate to 'white countries' whatever that means. I think if you pulled your bigoted head out of your posterior you wouyld note that most migration is 'economic' migration...people looking for a better future in countries that provide better opportunity. Not so long ago that was 'whites' going to 'non-white countries' and exploiting their people and resources illegally (and imorally).

And finally, before having a 'pop' at people who protest behind masks/veils/burkhas as not having the guts to stand by their convictions openly....why don't you post your photo and address before you make comments on-line. Or perhaps in this case you understand why that would be foolish.

Rant over! Bigots bring out the worst in me...especially semi-educated ones!

It has always been that way. We are a nation of immigrants. Everyone who want s to come and become a citizen is welcome.

I think what you meant to say was, when did it become the world's right to freeload off of U.S. citizens?

There is nothing wrong with immigrants coming to America and becoming LEGAL citizens. However, it is freeloading and wrong to immigrate here and NOT become a LEGAL citizen.

Other countries justify it by saying that it's the US holding them down economically. Since the US forces other countries to live in poverty so that they might hoard all the wealth, they should let their people come over.

I don't agree with this argument and think it ridiculous, but that's it in a nutshell nonetheless.

Edit:

After reading the rest of the responses I'm forced to add: The US did not chisel the sign on the Statue of Liberty. It was a gift from the French.

GIVE US YOUR HUDDLED MASSES… "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."
This is at the foot of our Statue of Liberty. It doesn't give everyone the right to become an American Citizen, but it certainly is an invitation to try. I don't believe in illegal immigration but we don't need to completey close our borders either. We can't shut ourselves off from the rest of the world. Through it wouldn't hurt us to pull back a little bit and let other parts of the world work out their own problems.

That is the entire basis of our country being established. But to make sure we weren't over run or having countries dump their criminals on our doorstep, there is this little thing called the INS to go through to become one. Too many think that because it's "too hard" it should be just fine to break our laws.

You know those words on the Statue of Liberty.

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

That is what America is about. We seem to have forgotten that.
