... or, indeed, is interested in HIs creation at all. Does the constant pain, suffering, brutality, venality and chaos not point in the other direction? Or will it all be worth it in the end?

Well, you're still alive aren't you? He let you be born, he gave you food, clothing, he lets you be what you are today. What more evidence do you need? Believe me, if he didn't love us, he could make our suffering SOOOOO much worse than it is.

We all see that there are more people who are healthy than those who are sick. There are more that eat well then those who starve. There are more that live decent life then those who commit crimes. Goodness is the rule and evil is the exception. Virtue is the norm and sin is the aberration. Generally trees bear fruits, the flowers bloom, the winds move smoothly. .

This is a temporary world and every thing here has a time limit. When its times comes it will die, come to an end and finish. Neither the good things of this world are forever, nor the bad things eternal. We are here for a short time and we are being tested. Those who will pass this test they will find an eternal world that is perfect and permanent. Those who will fail this test they shall see the evil consequences of their sins and corruption.

How many times it happens that we are not careful and still we reach safely to our destinations. The way people drive in some cities, it is a miracle that more accidents do not happen and more people do not suffer. Allah says: (Allah) Most Gracious! 2- It is He Who has taught the Qur'an. 3- He has created man: 4- He has taught him speech (and Intelligence). 5- The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed; 6- And the herbs and the trees both (alike) bow in adoration. 7- And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), 8- In order that you may not transgress (due) balance. 9- So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance. 10- It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures. (al-Rahman 55:1-10)

Abu Yahya Suhaib bin Sinan (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in everything and this applies only to a believer. If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is better for him".

Honestly now; I try to refute religion all the time but people like you make my job difficult.

God is based on faith, not on proof, which any religion will tell you. Love is also based on faith, not on proof. How would you feel if your significant other asked you "what evidence is there that you love me?" Actually I have had more than one gf say something to that effect and it showed me that they didn't love me.

As for the pain and suffering, maybe it's "tough love." Maybe the pain and suffering are necessary to prevent even greater pain and suffering. Maybe it's the most merciful thing that it is possible for God to do. But at any rate, the fact that people suffer and die is far from proof that God doesn't exist, or that God doesn't love anyone.

You're demanding that people prove something fundamentally unprovable and that is ridiculous. What "evidence" would you accept as proof?

If you're going to attack religion, at least do it by using an argument that hasn't already been shot down 100 times.

Your set of questions was one of two that I was very disturbed about before I was helped to see what God actually has indicated in His word. I've chosen the following articles to refer to you, as I think they best answer your questions. I suggest looking up (or clicking on) all the Scripture references within them:

Look around. Everything you see is His work. The only reason there are bad things is because good comes out of those bad things, for example, the Indonesian tsunami. Many people gave a lot of money to help. If the tsunami hadn't of happened, people wouldn't have given. This would then contradict the benevolence of God, rendering Him nonexistent. Enjoy life, for God loves you!

Hello there, you are blaming the wrong person, you shouldn't blame God. He doesn't go around hurting people he heals and helps the hurting even people that hate him and yes even those that hate him today without a cause.
There is one other person you seem to be forgetting, that is Satan he's the very one that does what you stated.
The problem you stated wouldn't be as bad as it is, if more people would obey the Christ instead of Satan. As long as people willingly serve Satan there will always be suffering.

The chaos and brutality comes from man's fallen nature, not from God. Through Christ, Whom the Father sent, we have a chance to be redeemed from that. I know that it is sometimes hard to see the face of God in a world filled with hate and chaos, but I found comfort in the words of a Russian monk who was imprisoned and eventually martyred for his belief in God. Even in the loneliness and gloom of his prison cell, he was able to see the face of God. Please check out this link to read his feelings on the matter.

The evidence is the fact that He hasn't struck you dead while you were sitting there writing your question, since you, like all of us (myself included), have rebelled against Him and broken His Laws over and over again. That's why He sent Jesus Christ to pay for our sins. If we believe on Him, God doesn't have to punish us by striking us dead and throwing us into hell, which He would have every right to do if He chose to. Instead, we can go to be with him in Heaven forever. Now THAT'S Love!

God sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world to die and take the punishment we deserved.

Most pain, suffering etc is man's doing, not God's.

He has made it possible for everyone to be reconciled with Him, but it depends on our response.

1 John 4:9-10 -- In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
