I was always taught that God forgives everyone, kind of makes religion pointless, everyone's right.

Psalm 9:17 says The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. The definition of wickedness is That which is bad morally. It often denotes that which is injurious, malevolent, or destructive in influence. Just a piece of scripture that would maybe appease a sinner. Luke 15:7 clearly states- I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Note that it says sinner that repents-you really need to repent for whatever sin you have committed. God also gives more than one chance to repent. You have to have the right heart condition. And God can see inside your heart. We were given free will because as a parent God wanted to see if we would choose to obey Him. If you have children think about that would you want your children to obey you because they love you or because you said so? I hope I have answered your question for you, if not, let me know and I will try to clarify it for you.

Your right God does give us a choice in what we decide to do. But what do you think hell is? Many people think it's a place where you are burned for thousands of years, but that's not true. 1 John 4:8 says 'god is love.' If you loved something would you torture it?
Just because you choose to do something that doesn't make it right in God's eyes. True god is forgiving but, he does have a limit to his forgiveness.

Too many places to list. Here's a few:
Ps 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. KJV
Prov 15:24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath. KJV
Luke 12:4-5 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. KJV
Rev 20:13-15 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. KJV
You also need to check "sheol", "hades", "outer darkness" . . .

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-- their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." (Revelation 21:8)
Jesus said in Luke 16:22-23 that the rich man there died andwas in Hell IMMEDIATELY. He was a sinner, so he went straight to Hell.
Revelation) 20:13-15
And the sea gave up the dead that were in it: and death and hell gave up their dead that were in them. And they were judged, every one according to their works. And hell and death were cast into the pool of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the pool of fire.

All people go to the Bible "hell". We are all sinners for we inherited sin from our first parents.
Death is likened to sleeping in the Bible. Jesus's friend Lazarus had died and this is the account at Luke 11:11-14: "These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. The Bible tells us that the dead do not feel anything
Eccl.9:10: " For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing--"
So the dead are not suffering--only in a deep sleep until God through his Son resurrects them back to life and there will be a resurrection of both good & bad people. Acts 24:15: "And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
Hell is the common grave of mankind--Jesus has the keys of death and hell. He will resurrect all who are in hell and then they will be judged--some to everlasting life and the rest will be put out of existance. God is love and would never torture imperfect humans-
Satan tries to paint God as sadistic and cruel. This he has accomplished through the false teachings of Christendom.

HELL COMES FROM THE HEBREW WORD ((SHEOL )) IN THE OT AND THE GREEK WORD ((HADES )) IN THE NT BOTH SIMPLY MEAN THE (( GRAVE ))
AND THERE IS AN END TO HELL. AND THE LAKE OF FIRE IS NOT HELL BUT WHAT IS CALLED THE SECOND DEATH IN WHICH THOSE WHO DON'T ACCEPT GOD WILL BE BURNED TO ASHES INTO NONEXISTENCE.
Re 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Re 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Re 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO CHRIST. HE WAS NOT LEFT IN HELL BECAUSE HE WAS RESURRECTED AND HE DID NOT SEE CORRUPTION OR WHAT WE CALL DECAY BECAUSE HE WAS IN HELL OR (( THE GRAVE )) FOR ONLY 3 DAYS AND 3 NIGHTS.
Ac 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Your question relates to Catholicism not God. Catholicism is a faith based on guilt. It does not celebrate life. The bible is blueprint for insanity. There is a word in the English language which pertains to those that believe that the bible is the truth and should be beleived without question. I forget what it is but insanity is a good simile for it.

Psalm 146:4 says: "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish."
"Dust you are and to dust you will return." (Genesis 3:19)
Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10 says: "The dead know nothing . . . In the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom."
"Neither was [Jesus] forsaken in Hades [hell, King James Version] nor did his flesh see corruption."* (Acts 2:31)
Job, who suffered much, wishing to escape his plight, pleaded: "Who will grant me this, that thou mayest protect me in hell [Sheol], and hide me till thy wrath pass?"
As you can see from these scriptures, hell is not a place of fire and eternal torment where sinners go. Jesus was in "hell" when he died and he was sinless; Job, who was the most righteous man on the earth at that time, wished to go to hell to escape his suffering. The bible also says that the dead are conscious of nothing. If "death" meant "hell(fiery torment)" then everyone would go to hell because we all die. I think some religions use hell as a scare tactic, which is wrong. God is too loving to make people suffer in pain for eternity and to say otherwise is an insult to God and offends me as a christian and it doesn't coincide with what the bible teaches. We reap what we sew, while we're alive and when it comes time for God to judge us, but in either case when we die we simply cease to live; that's it.

No, the choice is to believe in the Lord and admit to him that you are a sinner. The next step is to ask him to be your savior - it is promised that you will not go to Hell if you are saved and believe in Him. As far as sinning - try not to do it & ask for forgiveness when you do & you will be blessed. Good Luck.
