well...and i'm sure that it's been said mutltiple times and i'm just too lazy to actually read other people's answers...but JKR said she won't be doing any other books after HP7. She said she was gonna finish up some other children's book she was starting, but after that...the series is caput.
Who knows though, maybe she'll compile a spell book or something fun like that for charity...just as she did with Quidditch through the ages and that other one whose name evades me at the moment.
But, just like you, i desperately want the series to continue. I've grown up with the harry potter books and i just happened to get the best timing ever... I was eleven when the series came out and i grew up with the characters...each year a new book and i would change with them too. They were kids when i was and they spoke like kids..they were teenagers when i was and they fell in love and fought like i did. So...when this last book comes out...i will be graduating and moving out of the house. Graduating is already an ending chapter in my life...but the harry potter series is coming to an end too now, signifying the true end of my childhood.
and with that...i would like to thank jkr for giving something to be passionate about as a kid. Without that fervor, i wouldn't have known such a great childhood.

Well, hate to break it to you, but the next book will be the last book. J.K. Rowling structured the books so that they would occur over the course of Harry's education and the 7th year is the last year before university in Britain.
Take care,

The limit has been set at seven books since then Harry and his friends will be graduating. It would be nice if they continued with life after school in a series but who knows if they will.

I'm sure the next one will be the last one as she said, but I agree that she's a wonderful writer. I'll be very sad to see the series end, yet at the same time curious to find out what happens!

She's had it planned out for 7 since the beginning since that would be his 7 years at Hogwarts.

I heard that she's continuing the series after the seventh book. Might just be someone's opinion though.

She originally wanted to write atleast 14 books, but now they are saying there will only be 7. Which would make the next book the last one. *~sniff sniff~*
