If you're talking about the Green Berets, they were officially present in Vietnam in 1957, but could have been there unofficially earlier than that.

The 5th Special Forces Group, which was the last special forces group engaged in Vietnam, was redeployed back to the states in 1971. A small number of special forces advisors could have been present in Vietnam until near the end of the war in 1975.

The last fighter to leave Vietnam was a marine, which I consider to be the original special force. He fled the American embassy by helicopter in 1975.

G'day Nancy,

US combat troops were involved in the Vietnam civil war from 1959, but not in large numbers until 1965. They left the country in 1973.Some remained as part of the US embassy in Saigon. In the early morning hours of April 30 1975, the last U.S. Marines evacuated the embassy as South Vietnamese civilians poured over the embassy perimeter and swarmed onto its grounds. Over 7,000 US and South Vietnamese troops were evacuated.

I have attached further references for you.

Regards
