I get so perturbed at the rudeness of drivers who will not indicate where they are going by using a turn signal. Is it that complicated?

Yes, it's taught. People have become lazy in not using them. Some people complain that they don't like to hear the ticking noise they make. To that I say, turn on the radio & turn the volume up a little bit. If you catch a policeperson on a bad day, they'll ticket you for an illegal lane change or turn. I ALWAYS use my signal. I'd rather hear the ticking than get caught not using it.

You must be in California

I came from Maryland and there was a law called "failure to indicate your intentions" which makes switching lanes without signaling your intentions a ticket. or turning with out signaling or signaling without turning. This was in the 60's and thing may have changed

This works on several levels:
For instance someone WHO does not turn their turn signals off after changing lane driving with signals on as if they where to turn at the next road or something.

There is also the person who makes the turn but did not signal that they were going to turn.
Have you ever been waiting at a busy intersection waiting for a 'slow' car to get by because you thought there was space behind them to turn into traffic ONLY to find out that they where turning at the intersection you where at.
OR the reverse the person had their turn signal on and you thought they where turning only to find out they wher not.

When I took drivers education the instructor insisted every day that driving was a privilege NOT a right.

Some [many] drivers should not only loose there right to operate a motor vehicle on the road but the right to have children or raise them.

There are also the people who think that the speed limit is just a suggestion , and for some reason 5 , 10 or 15 miles per hour over the speed limit is not against the law.

Unfortunately Where I live in CA the 'mass transit' is not only a joke but a slap in the face and a kick in the groin to those who would use it. So you are really dependent on a personal poison air machine [aka car] for transportation if you want to have reliable timely transportation.

Yes, they do but not all states require drivers ed.

Apparently using a turn signal requires more brain cells than the majority of the population has.

They teach how to use turn signals, middle aged drivers forget how to use them along the way.

They teach it, but some think it's uncool and dorky to use signals. Those are the same people that usually cut in and out of traffic -- cutting people off -- and think they own the road.

I find that most of the people who don't bother to use turn signals, are the people who drive the Big Trucks and SUV's.
