When you apply for a job the applications may state things like, have you ever been arrested, or have you ever been charged, but most ask if you have ever been convicted and that one you probably won't have to worry about.

There are levels of records that police and related agencies keep and employers are not privy to all of them. The one's employers get are pretty much public records and that does not include arrests. It only includes convictions - including plead convictions. Obviously for the purposes of investigation police like to keep track of people arrested too - in case a similar crime comes up....and as such those records are not public and will not come back to hurt you - unless you apply for a law enforcement type job.

What can you do about a false report. If you can prove the report is false - solid evidence that its wrong - you should go to the police station and ask to speak to someone on the case (detective or lead officer). Show them your evidence and suggest they arrest the reporting party for a false report - which is a serious crime. Please note - you will have to have irrefutable evidence of your innocence.

Generally speaking you must be convicted before an employer can use an arrest against you. There are some professions where an arrest without a conviction can be use against you but normally the circumstances would be investigated by the employer before they use that information.

It's not on your record unless you have a conviction or ticket.
