I'm a Pediatrician.. i don't think that every pregnant women gets there urine screened for illegal drugs unless the Dr. thinks that there are risk factors. marijuana (pot) will cause a (+) urine screen up to 4-5 days if your were a chronic smoker.

If I had concerns about the mom using while She was pregnat, I would screen the baby's urine and stool for illegal substances.

For your OB/GYN to help you through the pregnancy-- it is best to be honest with him/her... We are Doctor's not policemen

My doctor always screened on the first visit and din't repeat it unless it came back positive. If a test comes back positive then the doctor can test at each visit and if repeat positives occur he can and most likely will contact social servces and the authorities as this is abuse to an unborn child. The best thing to do is when you go in if he mentions a drug test just be honest with him and tell him that you had smoked before you found out you were pregnant but not since then. If you are honest with them from the start then they will have no reason to doubt you later on.

I have never heard of an OB drug testing anyone......
did you have a case against you from doing drug previously? Or did you tell them you smoked pot? Yes.. I always had to pee in a cup at every visit, but it wasn't for drugs.. it was for the mandatory pregnancy test to make sure your horomone levels were still high.

Hmm... well I don't know the answer to your question, but if you didn't know you were pregnant it's ok. When the doctor asks you questions just be honest, don't hide anything or be scared. It's better you are upfront and honest so you know how to look after yourself and your baby while you are pregnant. If you hide things, it might affect your baby and then it might be too late for treatment later. Doctors are out there to help you and care for you, not necessarily to report you. Good luck.

From what I understand they do drug test everyone on there first visit. If it comes up dirty, they usually discuss it with you. If you come up dirty anytime after that, they will report it and when the baby is born it will be drug tested. Don't worry, you will be ok.

Different docs do different things. Either way as long as you stop now no one is going to judge you, and don't be worried about them turning you in or something, they can't do that.

Also if you are worried about the chances you hurt your baby, they are pretty slim, it will most likely only affect it if you continue to use it (especially in the later trimesters!)

Good luck and congrats!

you shouldn't get tested unless you confessed that you have or if you have a cps case already opened on you.

I didn't get tested
