I know that the Bible says homosexuality is a sin both in The Law and The NT and I also know the Bible says that God hates divorce and if someone divorces and remarries, they commit adultery AND.. adultery is condemned also in both the OT and NT. So I ask why most Christians think it's ok to accept one and not the other? Both according to the Law were punishable by death but it doesnt even seem like most Pastors have a problem marrying people who've been married before (multiple times even)

I personally dont have an issue with either as all things we do are between us and God but I want to hear other Christian reasons for not treating both the same?

Sometimes I wonder the same thing (although I don't have an answer to your exact question... sorry!)

The OT forbids tattoos, but they're OK by society. It also forbids wearing a shirt of 2 different materials and explains how to sell your kids into slavery. Then it forbids homosexuality. Why are some rules OK to break, and others not?

Are there any trained theologians out there with an answer?

What a valid and interesting question. Well, you have discovered a great way to weed out flase religion from true. It's a classic example of how people have let men rule them instead of God. The bible tells us that the only grounds for divorce is adultery. So the only way that a person who wants to please God is free to remarry is if they decide to leave thier cheating spouse. True christians would not accept either the treating of marriage vows as insignificant (by divorcing on petty grounds), or homosexuality as things acceptable to God. These pastors you mentioned are bad shepards misleading many by not enforcing Gods actual laws. These people are only claiming to follow God. You have discovered the truth about them by simply seeing the facts for what they are. Good searching! and don't stop. Truth is out there and you will find it if you keep weeding out truth from all the heaps of lies.

This is a great question and goes to the heart of the hypocrisy on this subject. With all this wailing about "Saving the sanctity of marriage," you don't hear any of the Christers calling for a Constitutional Amendment against divorce, do you?

Jesus never MENTIONED gay people, but he very SPECIFICALLY forbid remarriage after divorce.

PS HillierT, nice photo, Stud.

PPS JewelFlower, honey, the way we determine that most Christians think divorce is okay is that a) so many of them get divorced and b) we don't hear them calling for a ban on divorce.

It has been suggested that homosexuals are the last group of people who are left to persecute in this country. What I cannot understand is why does a large percentage of citizens of the United States, much less those who belong a religion that is supposed to be based on compassion, feel the need to persecute them - or anyone?

Or perhaps it is just that our media distorts the division of our country on this (and other) issues? I read an article today that suggests that the alleged "culture war" in the U.S. may not be as great as it is made out to be.

Still, when the President is crusading to have the Constitution amended and states are passing amedments to discriminate against homosexuals, it's tough for me to believe that they are not being persecuted.

Thanks for being a voice of reason.

i am boudist (spelling) and i have been taught to love evrything as it is and what they are. God ( or buda) let us make our desicions in the beggining of time. so your choices are between you and god ONLY. No one, not even a pastor can tell you how to make your decesions in life. Christians only think what they have been taught, but i accept them all the same. So if ur gay, be gay, only marry if u really love the person and u won't attract the attention of any outaline christians. Like ya said pure hypacrysticy(SPELLING)

You made an excellent point!

I think the reason that many Christians are against gay marriage but not against remarriage after a straight divorce is because it might actually put restrictions on their own lives.

But it's perfectly ok in their eyes to endorse restrictions on OTHER people's lives.

It's pure hypocrasy!

i havent been married yet but i know one woman who has divorced 2 X's. first marriage, the husband was abusive and alcoholic. 2nd one was pretty much the same. He broke their wedding vows, and i dont think God blames the woman for leaving the abusive husband behind.
theres a verse in the bible, that says when 2 ppl are married they become One........how are they one if the husband beats and abuses the wife? its a void marriage unless the wife wants to keep trying.

There are 10 commandments athe we all must live by in order to go to Heaven. No 1 sin IS greater than the other!! We all have sinned!! We all have skeletons in our closet...
No human was put on this earth to JUDGE one another.
We all have to ask for forgiveness in order to go to Heaven.
I dont have an issue with either. I WILL live my own life and worry about that only! THOU SHALL NOT JUDGE! That`s what the church`s should remember!!

the bible says these r sins but it also says theres a time for everything. its confusing yes. i think in this case its ok to go against religion because these things evolve around love. u cannot be punished for loving and sometimes love just doesnt work out. people should have a choice.
