pit bulls are great dogs, and can be absolute sweethearts and alot is based on the training they recieve. however, pitbulls as a breed tend to lash out at random people, pets, etc. it can be a one time occurance but also a deadly one. so yes they've gotten a bad rap, and i'm always careful around them just like i am with any dog that doesn't know me. so i think as long as you know your dogs and watch the warning signs of thier tempers, and all the strangers around them respect them they should be ok.

If your asking whether I think pit bulls are mean then I say it depends. I've raised many pit bulls and have not had any problems. I've bred them as well. That is not to say there are not pit bulls out there that are mean. But I have had no problems with any of them. All mine have been good with children and other animals. I think the main reason for them being aggressive is if they were put in the fighting ring.

I agree, no specific breed is naturally mean. They are bred for a certain purpose. Some are fighting dogs, some are hunting, some are herding...then there are the useless breeds that have no purpose. I actually think Chiuahuas are meaner than pit bull, but I've had bad expieriences with chiuahuas. I've never met a pit bull that I didn't love...American Bulldogs on the other hand...I could do without them.

Dog bite statistics for pitbulls
Of the 279 dog-attack fatalities in the USA between 1979 and 1996, dogs identified as "pit bulls" were responsible for 60 attacks—just over a fourth; followed by Rottweilers, responsible for 29 attacks (statistics from the CDC).

Well i think they can be really vicious when it comes to protecting their owners. But after all, they are animals and sometimes act abnormally even if they r domestic. Personally I love the beauty of a pitbull and would consider getting one in the future

Pit bulls are naturally a strong breed. They are good temped dogs and people are usually the problem when it comes to behavioral problems. Since they are such a strong breed it is harder to fix the problem once it starts. I read a good book called Cesar's way...it talks about strong breeds like the pit bull.

I agree with you. Many pit bulls are very nice because they are raised the right way while others are raised very poorly. It is all how the people treat them and train them they are not naturally mean dogs. People have to remember that all dogs have teeth and that they have the potentiall to bite people when they want to.

Pitt Bulls are an awesome animal. I raise German Shepherds and Dobermans. Pitt Bulls are reflections of their owners. Pitts get a really raw-deal with their reputation in the dog world. Only problem I have encountered and SEEN is blood. Once a Pitt gets that "blood" taste---they cannot be trusted--especially around young kids who may get battle wounds outside playing. That "blood" taste is easy given, unknowingly to the owner. Examples: cleaning a deer at home--giving the dog un-cooked deer scrapes. And believe it or not.....raw, uncooked meat from your kitchen. Whatever meat snacks you give to your dogs, throw them in the oven first---just 20-30 minutes. Cook that raw blood taste out of it. I bake our deer scrapes before my 3 Dobermans - 5 German Shepherds touch it. Pitt Bulls are GREAT dogs---awesome alarm systems, family protection and childrens pets, too. Just depends on the owner. You MUST respect them. They are a dangerous weapon, if not handled as such.

I agree with you..any dog can be mean or unpredictable..not just pits or even rotties.. It s the way you raise them and they get temperament from parents.. you should always see the parents before you get a puppy... i have been bitten by more small dogs in my work than large....cocker spaniels..spitz..doxie's...chihuahua's...these are some of the meanest ones ...you just gotta be careful about where you get your dog from..
