In the movie The Tenant, the religous question is raised, are we traveling a path that cant be deviated from?

He had become the girl in the apartment before him, dressing up like her, and also commiting suicide. Does this say that we cant change our fate?

At the crux of this question is the idea of free will vs. predestination. Do we have free will, or is everything laid out already?

The case of free will vs. predestination has everything to do with whose eyes you look through. Yes, because God dwell in eternity and sees the end from the beginning, He already knows the outcome of your decision. He looks at the earth's timeline, then chooses those who choose Him. However, to have true children and not robots, God gave us a free will to choose. We can choose to love God, we can choose to hate Him, or we can choose to exchange the concept of God for only what we can see within our puny science. If free will truly did not exist, God would provide a world with only one choice and provide tons of evidence to MAKE you believe. But He does not do that. He provides just enough evidence to allow you to think beyond the physical and into the eternal. But you must decide for yourself. But do not be surprised if God knows your decision the moment you make it.

Yes, God sees our life as a done deal. Yet, we ourselves do have free will to choose. It would be like I could go back in time, meet with George Lucas while attending USC film class. I would know everything about what he would write and the companies he would start. Does he have freewill to write Star Wars? Yes. Would my knowledge change the fact that Darth Vader will be Luke Skywalker's dad? No. It's a done deal because I am not bound by time.

So what is the big deal about free will? Well, those of us with children understand that there is a big difference between programming our computers to wake you up in the morning with "good-morning father-I-love-you" and having your little son or daughter jump on your bed at the crack of dawn yelling "Good morning daddy! I love you!" The Almighty God has a myriad of angels proclaiming "Holy, holy, holy"--but they have seen Him, so it is easy. Think what it means to God, having NOT seen Him, yet lifting your arms and proclaim, "Good morning Lord! I love you!"

I don't think you can change your fate.....

We each make choices based on previous actions and choices which must have been made based on others’ actions or our actions initially. The choices in the past had to have been made the way they were, because –they were made over another choice-. This happened in the past. It is unchangeable now and so our choices based on these choices are unchangeable in the future. It doesn’t matter whether these actions were ‘planned out from above’ or not, because we can not change the past and so have only one definite future. When previous decisions are made, it may seem like we have a choice next time, but we don’t. Yes, we can choose an apple over a pear, for example. But you really didn’t have a choice. Something in the past, something at that moment, some thought given to you made you make one choice and the only choice you could have made. You can’t say, ‘well then, I’m going to make choices based on nothing at all’; then you’d be proving my point.

And now about this movie...

Understand karma thoroughly and you'll know the answer to your question. We create our own reality. Our mind serves as template on how it will be energized by our spirit to materialize as reality. How we treat our surrounding and fellowmen will be registered in our mind. That is why our thoughts count most; that is why golden rule is powerful; that is why in the end your simply treating yourself accordingly to the kind of treatment you've done to others. Whatever you have earned becomes your path you can't deviate but you can deal appropriately to change your future destiny.
