what happens if I switch the black and white wires when replacing a three prong plug?

I am replacing a plug on a washing machine which had a three prong plug and now don't know the black from the white.

green terminal is ground, the wire is either bare or green, the white wire goes to the silver terminal and the black goes to the gold terminal. If you don't get it right you will blow a circuit breaker or in some cases the fuse. You could also start a fire.

Depends on do you know which wire is the ground wire? If not I would leave it alone, you might due some major damage then, call a technician. Sometimes with just two wires on a plug you would just reverse the polarity of your electrical circuit and it might cause some type of interference or hum. Next time to be on the safe side mark your wires with tape or something so you be able to tell what wire is what.

As Normy says, the black wire goes to the gold or brass terminal, the white wire goes to the silver terminal and green or bare goes to the green screw.

If you got the black and white wires mixed up you could create a shock hazard.

you're for sure insecure and are hoping white females are as jealous and passionate approximately you as you're of them. maximum of black human beings those days (not all nevertheless) have this fixation with white human beings's looks whilst white human beings do not think of roughly you as intensely in any respect.
