Pol pot is reckoned to have killed about 2 million Cambodians. He specifically targetted intellectuals - many of whom were liberal non-believers. So his reason for killing them had nothing to do with their religious affiliations. Not that anyone actually expected you to know the first thing about what you were talking about.

Since Christianity in the west is tied so tightly to capitalism, it could be argued that 2 million deaths (from poverty caused by capitalism) is about a year's work for capitalism - it's certainly hard to think that Christianity has killed fewer than 2m people in 2000 years. Born-again Bush has already clocked up 250,000 (combatants and civilians) in Iraq - fast work when you're dedicated.

I'm sorry you feel so defensive about the faith you've had foisted onto you, many people find comfort in religion. You obviously don't. But at least you have Yahoo Answers to vent a little of your anger and hatred for Christianity. It will probably just about stop you from becoming a serial killer. (Unless you already are one.)

What does killing have to do with converting in this sense? Stalin wasn't trying to convert anyone in a camp to Atheism: he was trying to exterminate them. Generally, it is the religious who try to convert before killing... There is no point to "converting" someone to Atheism before killing them: they are being killed for political reasons, and there is no afterlife to worry about anyway. Religions, on the other hand, often want to convert before killing, as it makes the executioner feel better about the power of his God over someone else's and shows an interest in what happens to the poor bastard after he dies.

In response to additional details: Ummmmm... Pol Pot killed one Hell of a lot of people. Christians destroyed entire civilizations. Aztec, Maya, Native American (to name a few), as well as killed absolute shitloads of people in the name of a dead carpenter who thought it was wrong to kill people. And are you honestly trying to say that Christianity is better than Atheism because Christianity has killed fewer people in the 20th Century? Is your religion only comparatively better than no religion? Do you really believe just because it seems to you to be a less bad alternative? Wow: you really have no convictions in your own beliefs, do you?

In response to the final additional details: Atheists have no motivation to "convert" anybody. They have a motivation to disabuse people of fallacious notions that might get the world blown up...

Are you ALWAYS an idiot?

We don't convert, we state our believes just like the rest of you. And it is only just now in recent years that some people got brave enough to do so, while YOU all have been doing it forever. So stfu, it's not just your world.

We want everything OPEN for ALL religions, not just YOURS dominating. Killing for politics? I have never heard of such a thing you awful little HEATHEN hypocrite wannabe "good" Christian. With your attitude, guess what, you aren't what other actual good Christians would consider one of them!

Wouldn't converting to atheism be going in reverse, from something to nothing.

I think the wars come from the political part of religion, church dominance. And like any good soldier people just follow along. Shouldn't be like that, all religions should think with their hearts first. Love thy neighbor.

In my own opinion it is probably due to the current events that make the atheist person believe that there is in fact no god. Now another motivation could be the fact that religion doesn't realy unite people it splits them farther and farther apart. Now if people actualy did what the bible told us it would be adifferent world out there.

Atheists that have started wars didn't do it because they were atheist. Christians have killed specifically because they were Christian.

Religious wars are always going on.

Religion breeds hate and segregates people.

I don't care to convert people. None of you are real Christians in the first place, you just think you are, or maybe you realize you aren't and just enjoy the hypocrisy. However you look at it, it is comic relief for me.

I think that "d_chino_m ", above, gave you the honest (and correct) answer.

*****edit****

And in response to "zen highway", above, why does he think that killing in the name of atheistic Communism is not an attempt to convert people to Communism? Didn't Stalin dynamite churches, shoot priests, and throw Christians & Jews into the Gulag?

Yea, it appears that no one seems to want to answer your question directly.

I don't have any motivation to convert you to atheism. You can't think without religion, you believe that everything you read in that holy **** bible and everything you're told in church are true cause god said so, you don't question his existence, you're like a sheep; to live in a world without religion you'll have to have brains, now it's useless to convert you to atheism since you can't be on your own

Um - two of your three examples ARE violent acts caused by members of religions. And what do these acts have to do with anyone trying to convert anybody into anything?

The same motivation a christian has to try to convert all others to christianity.

Life is easier when everyone else thinks the same way you do.
