Bernadette Hutcherson, 19, was walking the 6 week old yellow Labrador retriever on a leash with some friends Sunday in the 1700 block of 28th Avenue.

Police say that for some reason, the dog angered Hutcherson, who began kicking it, causing it to flip over several times. She then picked the dog up and slammed its head into the pavement at least twice.

Animal cruelty charges can be either a misdemeanor or a felony. In this case the Alameda County District Attorney's Office (CA) charged Hutcherson with a felony because of the incident's vicious nature and Hutcherson's intent to kill, authorities said.

OAKLAND — An Oakland woman has been charged with felony animal abuse for killing her 6-week-old puppy by smashing its head into the pavement, authorities said Wednesday.
Animal rights advocates called the July 23 death of the dog one of the worst cases of abuse they have ever seen.

Oakland Animal Services shelter director Sgt. Dave Cronin said Wednesday that what happened to the dog "was a brutal, brutal thing to do. It was completely defenseless."

Police said the suspect, Bernadette Hutcherson, 19, was walking the yellow Labrador retriever on a leash with some friends Sunday in the 1700 block of 28th Avenue.

For some reason the dog angered Hutcherson, who began kicking it, causing it to flip over several times, police said. She then picked the dog up and slammed its head into the pavement at least twice, police said.

I agree with you, THIS IS A DOG FORUM.
People have voices, and can fight back, animals can't.
I am speaking for the animals, if you want to speak for the babies, and the humans, go to those boards and do so.
I feel for them, YES I DO, that's not the point, or the issue HERE.

There's a difference between animals and people. People can talk, animals can't. Thank you for being a voice for them. I signed the petition and I only wish I could meet this person somewhere. Labs are my dogs, specifically yellow Labs. I almost threw my laptop when I started reading this. Now I just want to puke. People sicken me. I'm no longer concerned about them, I'll stick to animals. At least they appreciate what we do for them.

Too bad we don't value ALL life! Yeah the babies being killed is awful too but this is the dogs section...could we please stick to the catagory here? Human & animal abuse is horrible & should be stopped. I have spent the past 30 plus years rescuing abandoned & abused animals...so I know first hand about cruelty to animals. It is a proven fact that animal abuse leads to human abuse. So maybe we should start getting those two things together & we can come up with a solution of some sort.

Yes who wouldn't be. What's more horrific is that people get all enraged over pets but don't care about the thousands of babies being slaughtered each year in the name of abortion. That is truly sick.

That story just makes me sick. How sad. Does anything think people should have to be screened before owning a pet?

aren't you tired of human cruelty too... there are more serious things ... humans are being bombed everyday... not just kicked or head slammed...
