Yes, it is, but definitely not as annoying as one whom doen't check in much at all ot worse, practically ignores you! I would definitely tip the one that's overly attentive better than the slacker.

Yes, there is a balance that needs to be reached between checking in enough (for water and refills) and just being annoying. I had a great waiter. He checked back after the food came to make sure we had everything and that the food was good. He refilled our drinks then. He walked by two more times to check our drinks, but didn't say anything, he just went by and looked. He then asked if we needed anything else when he gave us the check. It was attentive service but not annoying and distracting.

Wow,
Thank you for talking about this! I felt like I was rude for thinking they were annoying, but I guess I'm not the only one.
I'd rather have them be too attentive rather than never coming to check on me, but it gets soooo annoying. I don't need a new Sprite every five seconds, and if I really need something, I'll let you know. It's the worst when they keep asking you how you are when you have a mouth full of food, haha.
I also don't like when waitresses overdo the whole "honey, baby, sweety, doll," thing...I think it's kind of weird when they excessively call you a pet name when you've never met tham before!

It's really hard to relax and enjoy the meal when you're constantly being interrupted by the waiter or waitress.
Ideally, the waitperson would WAIT until you've had a chance to taste your meal and then come back ONCE to see if you need anything, and then check back closer to your finishing to see if you would like something else.
I agree with you--I hate feeling like I can't take a bite of food without someone coming to ask me how it is. I'm afraid I'll have to answer with food in my mouth--eeek!

Yes, sometimes it can be worse than when they disappear and never come back. I was out the other night at a steakhouse and it seemed like I couldn't get a single good mouthful of food in my mouth without the waitress, or the manager, coming over and asking "Is everything all right?"

Yeah, it can be a pain when I have a mouth full of food and they ask if I need anything. I don't want to be rude and answer with a mouth full of steak but by the same token I think they could just check to see if my drink is halfway topped up and leave me to eat in peace without saying anything.

I'm a waitress and I never know if I'm checking too much or not enough. My routine is to go up to each table at least 3 times. Once to take their order, another to take them their food, and lastly to clean up their plates and give them their check. I know I hate it when I'm checked on too much, but I try to be somewhere in between.
