I have a Shap pei. She is very friendly with me and my hubby. However I have seen her shy away from strangers. She's still friendly but wary. Is this normal in this breed?

I have never had a Shar Pei but my neighbor did. She called her Bridget but we called her Stinky....Does your dog smell bad or was it just my neighbors that stank??.And Bridget was alternately shy and aggressive.I think they are just weird dogs.............

My roommate has a 2 year old Sharpei and she is wary of strangers, barks a lot and won't get close. Very affectionate with us though.

One of my firends has one and that about describes her dog to a T. She is firendly but wary of strangers.
I think it is one of the traits of the breed.

Yes, it is.
They tend to be one-person dogs,
and are not a favorite at the vet's.
