My name is Jasmine Jennings and I am entering high school this fall. Ever since I was a small kid, I wanted to become a 'doctor'. Now that I am getting older, the significance of high school has donned on me. I have already reviewed medical school requirements, and took a zero period class so that I can take a CP biology class as well as a Spanish class. I really would love to be a doctor when I grow up, and want to know any information about things that I can do to help prepare me for college, medical school and alas my career.

In college you have to take a year of chemistry, a year of organic chemistry, a year of biology and a year of physics. Then you take a test called the MCAT. It's sort of like the medical school SAT. Then you apply to medical school. You have to go through several essays, recomendation letters, and an interview. If they like you, you get accepted.

As a HS student, don't worry too much yet about becoming a doctor... take things one step at a time! Do as well as you can in school... this will help out a lot no matter what you end up doing later in life. Med schools will not care what classes you took in HS. If you have time, try volunteering at a hospital or shadowing a doc to learn more about the field.

My daughter knew she wanted to do something medically related when she started high school. She focused on biology, chemistry and physiology classes as well as math. She also worked through the high school and a local college with concurrent enrollment to get her CNA - (certified nursing assistant). This helped her a lot in making the final decision to apply for the top rated nursing program in our state. She is now finshing her nursing degree with many additional options open to her.
