(I have 4 other cats) I have a femal calico cat and I got her in October of 2005. Ever since we got she she has been hiding in my basement. She never comes out of her hiding spot and I dont know where she is. I put food and water out for her, but I dont know if shes eating it. Sometimes I saw her, but shes very afraid and my other cats got into fights with her and chased her. I dont know what to do!! why is she doing this? Help!!

My other cats dont stay in the basement. When the got this cat she was an adult, not a kitten. Btw, her name is Fluffy.

She's just timid. As long as she is eating, she'll be fine - you can tell by seeing if the plate is empty. I had a Siamese cat for 17 years and she hid all the time. It took her almost two years to come out of hiding when we first got her. You might try isolating her in a bedroom, as long as you give her fresh food, clean water and a cat box, she'll be ok. When she trusts you, she'll start coming out more. She's probably just afraid of the other cats.

You got her in 2005 BUT is she a kitten? OR older?
I find cats hide for a few reasons besides being scared.
Gonna have babies or, very ill or gonna die.
Has she been fixed?
Smell around the basement for her...I mean for POOP...you can tell by that if she has been going...
Go into the basement and close the door, to keep the others OUT...
Open a can of tuna or some cat food something really nice and cat irresistible, she will come out IF she is hungry, also listen to hear MEWING sounds.
OK since Oct. of 05 she has been doing this?
And you are just now trying to find and answer?
OK...
You say she never comes out...but you say the other cats chase her...
ARE the other cats in the basement too? Is this where you keep them all?

Your questions make me wonder.
How does a cat LIVE for almost a year in a basement with other cats chasing her?
SHE must eat or you would smell a really bad smell in there, a dead cat smell...
ARE they other cats MALE? are they fixed? IF not that is the reason they are FIGHTING...they have been trying to mate with her.
You would try to hide too if you got beat up.
Try to separate them so you can find her. If she needs to be spayed then do it.

of course the poor kitty is terrified, what would you do if you had a gang of bad guys chasing you, wouldn't you seek safety and stay there? try to keep the other cats away, keep the area quiet, try everyday to give food and sit quietly nearby, wow, since October has been a very long time, you need to do something about it.

she's most likely a feral cat. unfortunatly, feral cats are hopeless to tame. if I were you, I'd just take her to the Humane Society. they will probably have to put her to sleep. cats like that have absolutly no chance of ever finding a home. that's way to long for her to be hiding in the basement. she should be used to you and your cats by now. she's definatly a feral. I'm soooooo sorry.

she is probably scared that the other cats are gonna beat her up again. try taking her out of the basement and introduce her to the other cats

theres not any completly wrong with her but you need to show her that you and your other cats wont hurt her try not to let her in the basement and let her stay out in the open where she can learn to be around other animals and reward her for sticking around

Cats are territorial. Other cats may be giving this one a lot of trouble without you even knowing.

Hopefully all of your cats have been spade or neutered. If not do that first. Then if she is still being picked on you need to give her to a good home. (or keep her and give the others to good homes). She needs to feel safe.
