It costs you nothing... should you choose to become a member and donate regularly, you can request a receipt at the end of the year for your taxes provided you have paid by check and the church can keep track. You are not forced to give anything even if you go every Sunday. You could put a bubble gum wrapper in the collection plate and you'll still be treated the same as everyone else.

But whatever you give back to God out of what He's given you, I guarantee if He doesn't bless you 10 times over he'll give you back every penny.

Usually nothing, however there are churches that would like a monthly donation of five or more dollars (they really emphasize the more). Once you register, yes you register, you receive a letter once a month and an empty envelope for donations. If you don’t pay one month it gets added to the next month. Terrible isn't it. I won’t mention the denomination (I still go there); I don’t want to start any trouble. I don’t do that monthly bill thing, I’m a poor student. I do understand that the church provides a lot of free services and has bills of it's own, I don't mind the donation basket, it just feels strange that they ask for money in that way. You are not required to give, its voluntary.

Depending on the church, you'll be minus a few bucks every week but it usually goes to a good cause. The Priest/Pastor/Clergy folk all get paid by the "tithe" that the congregation donates. You don't HAVE to give to the offering, but it's nice. I go just to kill time and listen to a good story. There aren't very many FREE time killers any more, so enjoy the ones there are.

I have a feeling this question is entirely facetious, but just in case it's not. You should never have to pay to attend a church. Some Christians do pay a tithe though, but that isn't a membership fee or anything. And it shouldn't be a prerequisite to get into a church.

Most want a tithe of 10% of your income.

If you give more than 250 dollars any one time, the IRS wants proof by means of a receipt.

If you're interested then go. It costs nothing to go to an LDS church and there is no collection plate. I go with my friend all the time to church and activities and I usually have a blast; the people are super nice and easy to love and trust.

If you are thinking of going to a catholic church, then its your option whether you want to put money in a basket or pan that they pass around...i would suggest NEVER putting money in that...especially at a Catholic church...your money would basically go to pay the numerous settlements the church has to pay all the molestation victims that this religion was responsible for over the past decades.

I encourage all to NEVER put money in basket...if you want to helpout your local church, then just volunteer your non cash services instead.

Some churches request 10% of your gross income, and leave you alone to make a prayerful decision.

Some churches expect 10% of your gross income, and you have to show documentation.

There are Jewish synagogues that require you to "buy a seat" for certain services.

Some churches are grateful for what they have, but churches and temples have the same bills that we have at home (mortgages, heat, light, insurance etc.), plus salaries.

It shouldnt cost a dime. Some churches as that you pay tithes....but then that depends on the church. Most are glad you are there because you are you. Jesus never asked for money.
