Once hair has grown out of the scalp it is no longer alive. Therefore, the only way to control split ends is to cut them. Because they only get worse it is best to cut your hair to the point that most, if not all, are gone. You maintain your hair by having a light trim every two or three weeks after that.
One natural remedy for dry hair is to use warm olive oil. You can warm it in the microwave and then apply it to your hair. Put a plastic bag over your hair and then wrap a towel over it so that your body heat helps keep the oil and hair warm so that it penetrates the shaft. Twenty minutes is good - one hour is better. Then wash out with a good shampoo for dry hair. The health food store will often have Aubrey products - try a shampoo and conditioner for dry hair.
There are often good, organic products for deep conditioning at the health food store - check them out!
And don't forget that hair and skin health reflect your diet and lifestyle. For better hair health next year you have to start now!!!!! 8 glasses of water daily! Eat 7 - 9 servings of fruit and veggies every day - try to eat at least one, if not two small to medium dark green, leafy salads with a teaspoon or two of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar or lemon juice. Make sure you are getting good quality protein at each meal. Cod liver oil, daily gives you omega threes . . . good for overall health. Cut out caffeine and sugar which are both bad for stress and skin and hair! And get at least a half hour of aerobic exercise each day - it will keep your blood flowing which is good for your overall health and stress. If you are in good health your hair will always reflect that.

Split ends you should cut, or else they will keep breaking off or worse splitting higher. The dry hair is much easier. Do NOT wash your hair every day, let the oils build up. When you do wash, use a conditioner and let it sit a couple of minutes before you rinse, and don't rinse it all out. You can purchase Vitamin B6 and Folic Acid from any heath foods/drug store. These are essential to healthy hair, and can be obtained naturally by eating lots of Liver, which I am no fan of so I take the pills.

All you can do is cut the ends off. It doesn't have to be a lot, just the very end.
I do recommend it because split ends can grow deeper into your hair if you give it a chance.
