The Ilse of Surtsey, near Iceland, didn't exist until 1963. A volcano under the sea erupted causing an island covering 2.4 Km to grow. The highest point is 170m above the sea.

Surtsey is the Icelandic god of fire.

Edinburgh Castle, Scotland is built on an exstinct volcano, The Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland is made of volcanic basalt, Crater Lake in Oregon, USA, is a caldera 600m deep and the wildlife reserve at Ngorongoro, Tanzania is also in a caldera.

Where molten rock ,created by the friction of tectonic plates in the earths crust , has found the easiest route to the surface. if there's too much pressure created, it bursts through it's mouth.
That's if it's active.

Or it could be what Mr Spock uses to travel the amazon river.

it look like a cone. it erupts lava. it is very dangerous. it can kill u and burn u wit one touch. the lava can melt everything. in the volcano lava is call magma when it inside of the volcano. that is a volcano.
