my friend lives with her mom and her mom hits her alot.My friends is 16yrs old and the cops went 2 her hose and said that her mom could do that and there is nothing that she can do about it.

I think you have to be 16 in order to be "emancipated," but I think it depends on the State law. How are they being abusive? Is your friend being disobedient?

I'd never heard the term "emancipated" in this context. I agree with the advice that it is possible to find a way out of this situation. School counsellor is probably the best bet. Are there any other relatives she could turn to?
Your friend is lucky to have you as a friend. As long as she has somebody to talk to who believes her, she'll be a little better off.

In some states children cease being minors at the age of 16, in others it's at 17, and in yet others it is at 18. However, 16 year olds don't need their parent's permission to work. I left home when I was 17 and don't regret it at all.

Wrong she need to go to protective services and report this and file for emancipation at 16 get a job and find a place to live otherwise until shes 18

The cops are wrong. Your friend needs to contact child protective services. Or maybe she could talk to your school counselor, he/she should know where to go. If your friend is responsible enough and can prove it, she can sue to become an emancipated minor, or maybe someone can take her in until she's 18.

You are to young at 16 years old. If her mom had a valid reason then there is no reason for a teenager to move out. She is going to have to put up with it untill she has a job and is 18 years old.

She could get a divorce from her mom. Does her mom hit her with anything besides the hand? That could be the reason why the police did nothing.

its against the law its called child abuse that cop must be retarded or it was his first day but yeah he should be fired i would hit that cop so hard and call the cops again and have that cop arrested for being stupid and arrested cause he probaly does it to his kids to
