Go to your local pet supplies store, like a Petsmart. Talk to someone who knows about the catfoods. You can actually buy catfood that helps with excess shedding. Cats that shed a lot have some nutritional deficit. My cat was shedding a lot. I put her on an indoor formula by Purina. It helped a lot. And it is reasonably priced. But if you can afford it, there are even better ones by Iams and Science Diet.

The season for them to shed is almost done.. It will stop shedding and not start again until the early parts of next Summer.. There is no real cure for this.. They have to shed the Winter fur in order to cool down.. The best you can do it groom him or her often and also try to cover areas where it will lay with a sheet.. Short hair Kitty's are much cleaner.. I have to long hair and one short. Hopefully your parents will understand and just make sure you keep lent brushes around and keep things tidy and keep him or her groomed well. Also feed it a hairball remedy so that it is not chucking up hair balls all over the place... That can make anyone upset! YUCK...!

Cats shed. They should have considered this before they let you get her.
A few options would be to
Feed her a higher quality food. Better food may mean less hair loss.
Brush her daily.
Keep her out of certain areas of the house by closing doors.
Explain to your parents that cats shed.
Keep her inside year round (no indoor outdoor). If she doesnt need a winter coat, she will grow less of one.
Unfortunately, if your parents are adament and irresponsible enough, you will have to get rid of the cat. Start looking for no-kill shelters or friends/family that could take her.

http://www.gotpetsonline.com/pictures-gallery/cat-pictures-breeders-kittens-rescue/exotic-shorthair-pictures-breeders-kittens-rescue/pictures-photos/exotic-shorthair-0019.jpg Is that what he looks like? If so, then that is an Exotic shorthair.
" SPECIAL GROOMING NEEDS: The exotic shorthair has been called the lazy man's persian, as it's coat does not mat or tangle readily. However, because the coat is so dense, It should be brushed a couple times a week to remove loose fur." Page 137.
If that doesnt help, then change the diet to Science Diet or Purina. That would help if the problem is not lack of grooming OR just the fact that it's summer.

~~bathing the cat will help some, but if your cat has claws you might better just take it to be groomed by a professional as most cat's don't tollerate a bath very well.... even after that you will need to brush your cat a couple times a day. some cat's are just shedders. take heart though shedding season is almost over... by the end of september your cat shouldn't be shedding as much, but come may or june will resume shedding.~~

Keep him in your room or the garage. That's the only real solution.

you can have him taken to have it's hair cut, and that usually helps if it's a long-haired cat.
it may be something more serious, so take it to a vet first.
