Playing competitively can be rather...terrifying, at least for me. I used to get so nervous that my legs would temble and I couldn't move fast because I was so scared. But, don't think of it as much difference and play like you know how to play because if you worry what the other guy is gonna do too much, you'll be afraid the whole time and have no fun. I could go on for days about volleyball. As far as spiking, hopefully you know the 3-step rule. You do left foot, right foot, left foot (right left right if you hit left handed). When you do the last two steps it's more of a large leap and hope as you plant your feet, swing your arms back even if it feels weird because you will have enough time to do all this, just speed it up, then take your hitting arm back as you jump to the balls peak (highest point before it starts falling) and bring your arm all the way around to hit the ball. Once you hit it I mean follow through all the way around 'cause it'll give it a lot more power. For your serves, make sure you start with a great toss. Practice throwing your toss up and see if it drops in front of your right foot (if you're right handed). Try that a few times and make sure it lands in front of your right foot and once you have that down, you have a good toss to work with. When you finally hit, reach up as high as you can to the ball's peak and arch your whole body to put power in it but don't strain your back. Take a step as you serve too, it helps some people, doesn't hurt to try. For setting, make an L and a backward L with each hand and thats what you're supposed to use while setting but the other fingers with it to support those. Make sure you bend your knees when you set and spring the ball up and over with the tips of your fingers but be careful not to break any and such. For digging, just be on your toes at all times not taking your eye off the ball and hitter (hard to do but you hafta) watch where they're going to hit and be ready. Don't be afraid to sacrifice your body to save a ball because thats a lot of what volleyball is about, takin' one for the team. For blocking, watch the hitter where they move and face and watch the ball as well. Once the opponent hitter jumps that's when you jump to time it out to block the ball. Spring up from your legs like you would for a spike, and don't forget to use some arm swing to get you higher. As for bumping, the ball should hit on your forearm area like your wrist and arm somewhat. Keep your arms together and dont let them break apart of you'll get called for a double hit plus its easier to control where the ball goes. Use your legs to lift up when you bump the volleyball. There's a lot to explain about volleyball, I didn't cover hardly anything in this that is useful to a player but this is a basic look at what you gotta do. Good luck with it and have confidence in what you can do =))

As a coach, I look for enthusiasm as well as skill. Practice everyday, stay after if needed. Your overhand serve....
Hold the ball up w/ 1 hand at the height of your head. With the other arm draw it back like a bow and arrow, keeping it above your head. Give the ball a short toss.... this is the hardest part for players. You MUST have a controlled pass. Hit the ball at it's zenith or else it will go into the net. As you hit the ball, make sure to walk through. Then get back in the game, just don't stand there and watch it! Good luck!!

First of all, the best thing is to not be nervous. Just do your best, that's all you can do. I play on a club//competitive team myself, and I've learned some key points with coaches. #1, Always be loud. Whether it is cheering on a teammate, encouraging someone, calling the ball yourself, telling someone else to take it, ANYTHING! Just be loud and that way coaches will know that you are a dominant player and you aren't afraid to take control. #2, Always hustle to wherever you are going. If you're getting a drink, picking up loose balls, or just diving for a ball...always run! #3, It's good to have a smile on your face. Coaches will see that you're not only good, but you have fun at what you love to do. OK, well I'm sure if you do these things, you will definitely stand out from everyone and coaches will notice you! GOOD LUCK!

I play for my team and I am an left side hitter!!! I love the game. The advice i can give to you is always give all that you have, don't ever give up? Volleyball is a total team effort. To work on your serve make your shure your toss is plenty high, and don't bring your arm all the way down (your not hitting it) cause if you bring your arm all the way down your serve will go straight into the net. You should be hitting at least 40 balls a day. You should do great!!!!!!!

Competitive volleyball is funner in my opinion cuz you will be able to read the ball, not like recreational one nobody know where ball would go next. If you need serve advice, remember to snap your wrist harder like a hit. Read Y answer volleyball section questions regarding different v-ball skills will help you a lot too. Good luck.

I have before and I will be playing again this year. Don't be scared honey! Something you can do by yourself is pepper. Peppering is a mix of all volleyball skills in one drill. Just continue to bump, set, and hit (hit against a wall). Try calling up a friend you can pepper with too, its more fun that way. Especially when you spike it to them and watch them dive for it. Oh yeah, don't be afraid of diving! It's great fun. And to power up your serve? Serve the ball against a wall. Be sure to get the form perfect before you try putting power on the ball. Use your hips! It really improves the serve. If you need anymore info, you can message me anytime.

How old are you?
Because when I first tried out for club as twelves I made the team as well as another girl who had not ever played volleyball before except for in her backyard. You will do fine as long as you are like super athletic. Really athletic people usually do well in any sport.

My own advice: Bumping the ball isn't using your arms, it's all legs.
Keep your eye on the ball at all times and follow it.
Call "mine!" when you can get the ball, so you won't run into anybody.
Stretch before you play.
Good luck!
