It doesn't say that only 144,000 people will go to heaven, (JW's may disagree) It sais that 144,000 Jews will be sealed during the time of great tribulation. 12 out of each tribe of Israel.
If you bothered to read a little further you would have came across this.
Rev 7:9 And after this I beheld, and lo, great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.
Some beleive the 144,000 sealed Jews are to be a light to the Gentiles and lead this multitude to salvation.
I'm no way near good enough to make it. I've done some really shitty things, beleive me, but thank God I dont have to be good enough. Only Jesus was good enough, and through faith in him, and on his merits, A filthy scumbag like me inherits eternal life.
Amen!

Apparently you haven't read the rest of the chapter?? It talks about being sealed, not going to heaven. It talks about the 12 tribes of Isreal, elders, not all people, 12 thousand from each tribe. Read verse 9. It talks about a multitude without numbers standing before the throne of God to worship him. How could they be there if only the 144,000 were the only ones let into heaven? Think about it....
Saying you aren't going to make it to heaven is a little bit defeating isn't it? What do you have to live for then? Hell? Boy that sure makes me want to jump up and practice my religion!!

Read more carefully! The number 144,000 is the number of those who received a seal which protects them from certain harm. It's not the number of people who make it to heaven. Read verse 7:9: "a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language..." etc., so there are definitely more people who make it to heaven than 144000.

I've read revelation just recently, and that is not at all what it means! The 144,000 witnesses are Jew that will be believers in Jesus Christ during the great tribulation. They are gonna be the main people that God is gonna uses to bring people to him. God clearly states in the Bible that whoever shall believe shall be saved. On the cross Jesus said to the one thief that had confesses he deserved death Jesus said that that day he would see him in Heaven. The whole point of Jesus coming down to earth was that all may be saved and come to the Father through his son Jesus Christ!

"And I heard the number of those who were sealed, 144,000, sealed out of every tribe of the people of Israel"
A few things:
1. The "sealed" refer to people who are living on earth at the time that the events of Revelation take place. It does not refer to the number of people who have died already.
2. The "sealed" are described as coming from the tribes of Israel.
3. The numbers here, as in all of Revelation, have profound symbolic meaning, and to interpret them literally demonstrates a profound ignorance of the use of numerical symbols in the Bible.

Umm, it's 144,000 of a certain group of people (tribes of the sons of Israel), not all of mankind. This doesn't apply to Christians. And getting to heaven has nothing to do with being good in the first place. Nobody is "good enough". Your entire premise is incorrect.

Revelation 7:4 does not say ANYWHERE that 144,000 people will go to heaven. Read it.... it says 144,000 people will be perfectly sinless before Jesus comes.

The 144,000 are people from the original 12 tribes of Israel. That is the not the number of everyone going to heavan, just those sealed tribes.

Take the scripture into complete context with the associated scriptures accounting for the others that will make it to Heaven---this number has to do with the Jewish converts to Christianity that are alive at the time of the rapture---Jews who have accepted Christ as their personal savior ---that is all there is to this fact and figure--you can not take this one scripture as a stand alone and by itself only truth---it is one scripture --making one statement ----about one true thing---and is not the be all---end all statement of the entire story of salvation and the ones who will make the trip to the other shore ---- period ----

I WONDER DID YOU READ THIS OR WHAT. IF PEOPLE WOULD NOT TAKE A VERSE AND PUT THIER OWN INTERPATAIONS TO IT, PEOPLE WOULD UNDERSTAND THE WORD OF GOD, TRY READING A LITTLE FURTHER, AFTER ALL REVELATIONS IS CALLED THAT FOR A REASON ((( TO REVEAL )))
Re 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
Re 7:10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
WHERE EXACTLY DOES IT SAY THAT THEY OR WE GO TO HEAVEN WHEN THE WHOLE BIBLE FROM OLD TO NEW SAYS WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT GODS KINGDOM WILL COME DOWN TO EARTH TO BE WITH US. I WILL TELL YOU, THE TRADITIONS OF MEN WILL STOP YOUR GLORY THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE.
Re 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Re 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
