There's this commerical I keep seeing about www.freecreditreport.com (never have been on it, though) . But I would personally check out these websites listed by everyone first before I gave anyone my information. It is up to your judgement to make the decision of whether these sites are scams, or the real deal.

You can get a truly free credit score (not just a report) at http://www.freecreditreport.com/ .

You will have to sign up for their credit monitoring with a credit card but it's a 30 day free trial. Make sure you cancel it before 30 days or they will bill you $9.95 and no, they will not remind you the 30 days is nearing. They also make it hard for you to find the number to call to cancel the service (1-888-888-8553), but once you do it's on the up and up.

Everyone should know their credit score.

You have to pay for a credit score.

To get a free credit report, use www.annualcreditreport.com. By law all three companies have to give you a report for free every year.

Any other "free" credit report site requires you to pay for something else.

all the web sites like freecreditreport and annualcreditreport will give you your credit history for free, not your score. You have to pay for your score.

What you can do is apply for credit and the creditor give you your report. The creditor will pay, and you are entitled to it. But usually you then have to follow through on what you are applying for.
