Most of the time if you connect a DVD player via the composite connection, yellow (video), red/white (audio right/left) to a VCR the picture will be distorted. Something to do with the sync signal or something like that. There are devices to over come this, you could do a search.

However I got around this problem. S-video was the key. I have a super VHS JVC VCR. Using S-video out of the DVD to the S-video in on my VCR gave a great picture. I didn't even have to record in super VHS (if you recond in s-vhs you can only play it on a s-vhs vcr). The picture on the tapes is as good or better than store bought movies on tape, I would say spectacular for tape. The down side, I have had two JVC S-video VCR's in the last 4 years, one lasted 2years and broke, the eject would work intermittently . The second lasted on a few months then wouldn't play, rewind or fast forward, an expensive channel changer! JVC has a quality problem.

Hook up your VHS just like you would do if you were dubbing from another VHS. DVD output to VHS input.
