Its not the Jesus in the Bible that turns me off to it. Its the mean, sadistic, cold-hearted God that does. Any God that would:
turn his own people into pillars of salt
ask his follower to kill his own child to prove his loyalty
put an extremely faithful and devout follower of his through hell just to "test" him (Job)
send a homosexual to hell but forgive a murderer
is a God I want nothing to do with. The God portrayed in the Bible makes Satan look like a saint.

The Bible is the Truth.
Anything other is false.
There is much falsity.
New religions, new Gospels.
What does the Bible say about another gospel being presented?
Gal 1:8 But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
Interesting that this was written about 65 AD, like looking into the future some 2000 years. ( the actual word for cursed is anathema=DAMNED) Kinda harsh wouldn't you say?
He meant it.
Another very Strong statement made.
1 Pet 2:8 and, "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE"; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.
What does the word disobedient mean? It means unbelieving.
Perhaps some of these I have mentioned, turns them off.
The more reasonable is:
He loves everyone, he won't do anything like that.
All paths lead to God.
JUst do good and you'll get there.
Believe in Jesus and you can ask anythig you want, cash and all.
Big Cadilacs and houses and all.
One religion is as good as another.
I believe in God so I just have to grab the grabber. I'll just go to confession and start all over again.
Press the reset button, you know!
If I didn't get it correctly, I'll just blame the pastor or priest.
Can you picture it? The finger pointing begins.
All these explainations feed right into the easy way out.
I'll justify my doings any way I can.

People do not like to admit that they are sinful, it requires humility.
As Paul said..."God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God." (1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
CS Lewis also had an interesting take on this subject..."Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased." (CS Lewis "The Weight of Glory")

He calls us, even today, to repent of our sins. That is to stop living life the way we have been and turn to a new way of living and doing things. Not a popular option in most peoples books. We just do not want to take that cold hard look at ourselves, because we all come up short on the good side, despite our best intentions. It is only by coming to see our self as we truly are, acknowledging that we can not do what is right on our own. that we start to see the light. Jesus died to redeem us of our sins, both towards God and our fellow man. He alone is the way that the living God has provided for us to be forgiven and restored into a newness of life with Him. Jesus Christ is the way, truth, and life.

Part one:I would have to say probably self reflection. Work. Having to believe in someone other than themselves.
Part Two: Prophets only testify of Christ. The Truth.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offers a prophet of God ordained by Jesus Christ himself in the flesh.
The restored gospel in its fulness prepared for our day. Modern day revelation and the gift of the Holy Ghost.

I think he's pretty neat. However, I don't feel the need for a religious prophet and/or leader. Ever considered living your life without one?

Well it takes humility to admit that you are a sinner and that you need God.
Many would rather join a group that is more of a "bless me club" You know minimum input maximum output. Jesus demands that we give Him everything and then trust Him with it.
