Yes,when I was 10 I had many jobs to do around the house and it made me a better person today. I grew up in a working family and our values were very strong, Sadly alot of kids today have it easy and are lazy because parents let them get away with too much and hand everything to them. I also dont see any thing wrong with boys or men doing more then girls because boys are geneticly stronger and can handle alot more. I hope you dont take that the wrong way I just think that if men want to be the head of the house then we should take on the extra work-load. P.S. I dont see anything wrong with girls cutting grass if they want to, really it takes a whole family to do there part and to prosper together as a whole. I am a strong beleiver in that.

Whether you're a boy or a girl, you should be willing to help out with chores, including dishes. Being over ten has nothing at all to do with it. Yes, boys should wash dishes, and girls can do chores that throughout history might have been strictly a man's job. In today's world, there is no job that either a man or woman can't do if either is capable. Obviously, men are usually bigger and stronger than women, so jobs that require physical strength are generally delegated to men -- but not always. If a woman wants to dig ditches or fix tractors and feels capable, I say, "go girl". And if a man wants to be a hair dresser or a nurse, why not? You sound like an intelligent young man, and I'm sure you want to be up to date with the times. So don't think the way your grandpa used to think -- get modern, kid! Nowadays, all jobs are unisex. I think you were just trying to get out of doing the dishes, weren't you? Sorry I disappointed you with this long dissertation.

There is no such thing as a man's job or woman's work! Washing the dishes is in no way degrading for a man! When somebody makes dinner, is that person expected to clean up after everyone else who ate the food and is now watching TV with their hand down their pants? I don't think so!
Housework should be divided equally. Do you think it's fair that only one person works in a house when there are more people there wanting to be fed and making a mess. You know what that is? Slavery!

I think its great when a family all gets together and helps out with the chores. They have to be done, and it makes for a much better unity when everyone gets involved.
I think 10 is a good age to wash a few dishes from time to time.
Its good discipline, and teaches them responsibility, whether it be a girl or boy
I used to cut the grass as a girl for my mum, but in those days there was no electric involved, only a manuel lawn mower.

Work is work. To be equal and fair, men and women should do both. Its a bad stereotype, this idea of split labor. Washing dishes and cutting grass are not gender-specific. Even Ward Cleaver helped June with the dishes. :)

Wow, Yes a boy should wash dishes, and a girl can mow a yard. Also learn to do laundry and cook some simple meals. Teach independence and responsibility. How a couple divides the chores is there business.

My 11 and 10 yr. old sons do the dishes and I (Mom) help with the yard work. There is no such thing as women's work and men's work. If a person is capable of doing a job then they should do it. My sons also do laundry, clean the bathroom and cook. When they are out on their own, they will be able to take care of themselves.

I think if the boy is NOT washing dishes over the age of ten there is something wrong.

Yes I can not stand the double standard of chores. Boys and girls can do the same chores. The riding mowers are no different than a
four wheeler and they have all kinds of safety features. As for dishes if you can eat off of them you can wash them and the laundry too. Every kid should have chores. Even my 3 year old has chores.

Woman's work? What era are you living in? ...and I was the only member of my family who mowed the lawn. My husband and son had grass allergies! It's great exercise. There's no such thing as women and men's work; otherwise, nothing would get done at my house - it's all MY job!
