How did that work exactly? What would have happened if he didn't die?

I ask the question because I suspect many christians don't even know the answer.

If you ever get a satisfactory answer, let me know. I always wondered about the physics of how all that works -- how does him dying do anything? and the answere is always something like, "the penalty for sin is death, so he had to die for our sin, so that we would not have to die." OK, but why? how does it work? just because it says so in a book somewhere, it has to be true? I'm not saying it isn't true, I just don't understand it, and I'm a pretty smart fellow on most subjects.

jesus never sinned he was sinless
like the goats in the old testament that were burdened with the jews sins and sent into the desert to die
jesus took our sins upon his shoulders and died on the cross
he was accuseed wrongly and died under false charges
jesus only paid the price of sin when he rose again after 3 days
the change of jesus not dying would never have come about to do so would be disobeying the father and as the son and god himselff jesus could not sin and so could do nothing but become the last and ultimate sacrifice for sin

If Jesus had not of died on the cross, then only the Jews would belong to God, and would have to live under the old laws in the old testament, they couldn't just ask for forgiveness, they would have to slaughter the best lamb, and offer it up as a sacrifice, blood would have to be shed to compensate for your sins. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, He died and shed His blood to cover our multitude of sins, now all we have to do, is Believe He is our Savior, that He did die for us, and ask Him into our lives, so we can be saved from the eternal death of sin.

jesus died for your sins which means that even though you were full of sin he died on a cross to save you. jesus lived the perfect life and he loved you so much that he took all the sins of the world upon him self so you would be able to go to heaven other wise you would never be able to be good enough to get to heaven. you were not and will never be sin free but because jesus died on the cross he saved you from an eternal hell. so he died for your sins that you hadnt yet commited but he knew that you would be a sinner and he died so that he could take your sins away and give you a chance to live in heaven with him forever otherwise you would never be good enough to get there so he died to take away your sins not yet comitted'

God says that the wages of sin are death. In other words, everyone who breaks one of God's commands deserves the ultimate death penalty of eternal separation from God who is the source of life.

But God so loved us that He sent his Son to pay our debt for us by dying in our place on the cross. Jesus was the "lamb without blemish" that the old testament sacrifices were leading up to.

It may sound strange that a person today could have their sins paid for by someone else who died almost 2,000 years ago but the Bible says that since men in their wisdom chose not to know God, that God in his "foolishness" sent his Son to die in our place and that those who accept this by faith will be saved.

If Jesus hadn't died a substitutionary death for us then we would all have to appear before God when we die clothed in the "filthy rags" of our own self righteousness. The actual word in the Hebrew from that passage refers to a woman's menstrual cloth. God says that all of the sins we have committed over the years make us appear in his eyes as something abominable and only worthy to be cast into the lake of fire.

That's why I'm so glad that I was given the gift of faith to trust in the finished work of Jesus on the cross to provide the payment that my sins deserve in my stead.

Since Jesus was God incarnate and did not break the law and died as a perfect sacrifice to cover all sin (until then the Jews used animals as a proxy for the coming Messiah), He died for our sins - we just have to accept that gift.

It's not that hard to understand, Jesus came to earth to die on the cross, which was actually supposed to be humanities punishment for their sins. Jesus took all those sins onto himself on the cross therby getting the sentence of death. On the cross he deserved death because all the sins of the world were his. When he was preaching and teaching, he did nothing wrong, he had no sin, so he was the only one who could take on other sins.

if your not a christian, this is how the story went.along time ago people didn't like Jesus i don't remeber why and they put him on the cross and they put nails through His hands and but a thorn crwon on His head which He was bleeding like crazy. and so then later, from Heaven, God said that youre sins are forgiven so if that never happened no one would be in heaven right now i think. so everyone who died would be in hell

Im not a Christian as u can see from my name.. But id like to answer this question as i find it quite interesting question.

Id always like to pose this question.. but many would think that im another muslim who want to spread hatred among religion. Im just merely another person trying to state my opinion.

Why would God sacrifice Jesus that at the first place? And to save mankind from who and what? To save them from hell and their sins? IF God do exist.. isnt hell and heaven his creation? And if he loves his ppl so much.. why dont he just put all his ppl straight into heaven rather than torturing his own son in his own hell? I can understand if human being can be a sadist.. but God? To be a sadist against his innocent son?
I cant help but think there is a flaw in this story..

Some say that its not so.. its just that God does that to repay the sins that are committed by mankind. But then.. who does god repay the sins to? :-?

I believe that when someone commits a crime.. he goes to jail.. not getting a replacement for him.. human being do not need so much convincing from god that he need to lower down the dignity of his own son to convince his ppl to worship him. in fact.. ppl would take things for granted even more now that they know there's always a door open for them to repent whenever its convenient for them.

If i am god.. its a common sense to me that id not do so.. Many would say thats why im not god.. which is quite true.. but i also believe that if indeed any god would to do so.. then i do not see such a god as a god strong enough to rule the world fairly.. with all due respect to every religion in this world. its just my personal opinion and its just that.. i think there's a flaw in this story... but everyone are entitled to their own interpretation.

What happen if he didnt die? well to me.. it makes no difference cos i do not believe that one should die for another one's sin.. but if based on this story and that he doesnt die.. then all human are responsible for their own sins..

God sent His son Jesus as a sacrifice. Jesus was crucified on a cross for our sins and if you don't believe in that then you will spend eternity separated from Him in hell.
