its easy dude, Just do exactly what tell you and you will be just fine. first, if the car is not warm, run the engine till it is warm, not burning hot. ( Hot motor oil can cause severe burns, you just want it warm enough to have any sludge to come out with the old oil). On the bottom of the engine, there is a oil pan, somewhere on it there is a drain plug, remove it, let the oil drain entirely. while you are waiting for it to drain out, u can change the filter. just unscrew (turn to the left) the old filter with a filter wrench, but before you put on the new one, be sure to put a film of new oil on the rubber gasket to ensure a good seal, when you screw it on, hand tighten it ONLY, turn it between 1/4 to 1/2 turn at the most after you feel the filter make contact with the block. Now you go back under the car and put your drain plug in, but be careful, many Ford's have very fine threads on the drain plug and it is very easy to cross-thread it. so be very very careful when you screw it back in. tighten it up with your fingers first only till it is all the way in. then use your wrench to tighten it, but ONLY tighten it snug. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN ! ! !. Now you can pour in the new oil in the oil filler cap on top of the engine. Fill it to the full mark on the dipstick, usually 5 quarts, some engines only take 4. dont overfill it. after you do that, run the engine for about 5 minutes and check for leaks around your oil filter. if it doesnt leak, ur good to go, if it does, ( which is rare), tighten it just a little bit more, but not much. If that doesnt work, remove it and check the gasket for damage, if it is damaged, replace the filter. then go back and check the oil level in the engine, add as necessary, do not overfill.

Friend of bought ramps to drive on to change his oil, and to get to the oil filter. Remove the oil pan plug, remove the oil filter, put the new filter on hand tight, put the oil pan plug back on, then add the oil in the engine. I think escort is 4 quarts. Start the engine and make sure the oil pressure goes up in a couple of seconds, and look for leaks.

the short version: unscrew the oil plug, let the oil drain into an oil pan (don't let the oil plug fall in, though); unscrew the oil filter, throw it away; put a new oil filter on(hand tight, not with a wrench), screw the oil plug back in, and fill it to the full line with oil

run the car a couple minutes, then turn it off and check the oil; it should need another qt or so

Follow David C's directions, but to cover it all make sure the block where the filter screws on is clean, plus the drain plug on the pan has a gasket, replace it with a new one--not replacing it is the #1 cause of leakage' people tend to over tighten with old gasket, which leads to other problems such as thread stripping.

Look dude , read your owners manual.Change your oil every 5000 miles , not every 3000 miles . I work for one of the big 3 oil companies , we like you to change it every 3k , hell it's more money for me ,but it's not nescessary .any oil w/the little, round certification logo on the back will do . I'm a Shell products buyer ,"hit , hint"

Instead of great details, just ask some of your friends that have done them before to help. It is better to have someone there to help give hands on about it.
