I really don't know why everyone has to argue about it. I'm an athiest (or, probably more like agnostic), my husband is a Christian. We debate the bible and evolution vs. creationism, and stuff like that all the time. We don't piss each other off, we just talk about it like normal people. He knows I'm not asking questions to mock him, I really want to know how he thinks. He's very knowledgable about the bible, and if anyone could convince me, he'd be the one. But he hasn't convinced me yet, so we still debate =) It's fun!! Take the mockery out of it =)

I think the problem is that most people don't debate - they argue because they want 'to win". They resort to name calling and mockery which are both sure ways to end a good debate on a bad note. As a Christian, I love to debate the Bible, Biblical theories, God, and other religious aspects of life and I don't worry about winning or losing, just about learning and teaching.
I find the same problem you do... most people don't actually want to debate or discuss, they would rather make fun and laugh. So I now stick to debates with people that truly want to learn or are open-minded enough to have a good discussion.
Next time you talk to your friend, just tell her that you respect her beliefs and want to learn more. Then ask if she would like to learn more about yours. Maybe you two could have fun learning about each other and not worrying about winning or losing a debate!
I hope this helps. Thank you for the question. Be blessed.

Everyone's a sinner and no matter what, if you debate with a Christian, we always win because we have more evidence and proof to prove that we Christians are right. We're not stubborn; we just know the truth and are sticking with it. And we're not brainwashed either; you are. The society brainwashes so many people in the society, like you.

Christians are known as sheep because they have blind faith. They believe what their shepherd tell them and lead them. Even if they do not understand their own religion.
Christianity was started as a cult, that even had its roots in Islam.
I'd really recommend any "religous" person to pick up a copy of Houston Smith's "World Religions" it's a great read and provides inside depth on the history of all the world religions.

Of course. I like the people who accept it as an intellectual debate, and offer proofs and historical evidence as we talk. I do not like the people who see my beliefs as an attack on theirs, and attempt to belittle me.
You cannot say hateful things to me, then claim that Jesus and all Christians love me. If I say that your religion is based on pagan religions from thousands of years ago, you cannot tell me that I secretly believe in God, but am just too stubborn to admit it. Unfortunately, most people take religious debate as an insult, and are unwilling to consider other ideas.

depends what you consider stubborn. you can't be ignorant if you have the truth can you?
what makes you say you werent stubborn if you were arguing with her?
and Finlay, whats so wrong with being a little stubborn? i praise her for being able to stand up for her beliefs, although the whole sinner statement was alittle...odd.. to say the least.

I cannot debate with anyone I've met who's christian because for the most part, I know more about scripture than they do, and they have no idea about evolution and common descent.

My Christian friends have enough respect for me, and vice versa, that they've accepted me as I am.
I've never gotten in a debate with any of them on religion.

I've debated both sides of the issue. In a debate when you have more "facts" then your opponent they typically do get mad.
It's not nice to make fun of them just because they don't know the truth. I just had someone try to convert me while he was drinking!!!!!
